What album, song, song concept / idea, musical moment in general do you wish you wouldve been in the studio while the band your nominating was recording or working out the music for? I'll throw out the late great folk artist Nick Drake while he was recording the music for his Pink Moon album. Its a tough listen, sparse, minimal and the manifestation of a manic depressive really going off the deep end and laying it all down in just 2 nights.

Honestly, in the studio with Pink Floyd when they were recording Wish You Were Here, and Syd Barrett wandered in.

I would have liked to have been there when Rod Stewart recorded "Every Picture Tells A Story". That band cooks so fucking much. I love when they drop down and Stewart sings "The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe" and you can hear Martin Quittenton in the left channel shout, "Hey!". You know he knew they were doing something special.

That's one of the most underrated lyrics in musical history. Classic

Good call, JORR.

Stevie Wonder while recording the Music Of My Mind album (1972) and Songs In The Key of Life album (1976).

Earth, Wind & Fire when recording "All In All" (1977).

Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones when recording "Thriller" (1982).

Muddy Waters - "Hard Again" (1977)
Featured Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, and Johnny Winters, who also produced it. There are a lot more significant musical moments/albums, and there are better instances of artists at the top of their game, but no album sounds like it was as pure a joy to make more than this one. It sounds like a party where a recording session accidentally broke out.

The Doors while recording "Waiting for the Sun"

Would've been entertaining yet uncomfortable ....probably would've scored with some groupie as well. 8)

I bet the "Appetite For Destruction" sessions were interesting.

But I would've loved to see My Bloody Valentine creating "Loveless" in the studio....

Hot damn, Rodney, that song is one that had slipped to the back of my brain. I haven't listened to it in a good ling time. Firing it up right now...

The Soft Parade would have been great as well and probably more edgy. What with coming off the Miami penis charge and all. Violins and horns and for the first time lyrics credited to individuals in the band instead of just The Doors. It was different and my favorite Doors album.
