PSU was going to take a step back this year and it seems that the administration at PSU wouldn't give him an extension. Navy must have given some guarantees but still a strange move so late in the year. PSU will have trouble getting a good coach in for this year.

Not that suprising, with the financial issues that we are experiencing, it was going to be hard to justify paying the guy...as the rest of us will not be getting a raise this year. Plus, Penn State's athletic program is focused on football, volleyball, wrestling and ice hockey for the foreseeable future.

There was no way he was going to be a consistent winner in the big ten. Still, Navy? Maybe it was good money.

$200k less a season.

It just shows the complete lack of commitment that PSU has towards basketball. It's sad that they continue to ignore one of the revenue sports and hurt the conference.

He knew that he had maxed out at Penn State and wasn't going to wait to be the next guy to get fired. Good for him. He's a good coach.

Yeah, but what does Navy have to offer. They'll never be big enough to compete unless a recruit has a freak growth spurt like Robinson. There is no chance to have sustained success at the school and no real interest to do so. Loyola is a more attractive job.

I think he saw the writing on the wall that he was going to be fired at PSU eventually and at Navy he can basically collect a paycheck and live a good lifestyle. He's basically semi-retiring rather than stick in a dead end job.

He'll also likely be a candidate for other jobs if he chooses.

I think he'll be happier at Navy.

He'll also be able to have a similar recruiting base area to bring players in. That's big in college basketball - to not have to build a new recruiting base.

I understand the connections may be the same but he has to recruit an entirely different type of person at Navy.
