just got back from it.

like the characters i don't remember what happened on that night in "the hangover"...as in...i don't remember much of the movie now. it's like vapor. it was funny, i think i remember opining...but it didn't stick with me.

maybe that was perfect for this sequel. i do recall some of the same things (does ed helms have to sing a song in each one?) but i honestly don't remember how he got the girl that he was marrying in this film in the first place.

that said, i did laugh. there were some big laughs, in fact. more than i remember from the first one. i think what helped was that the expectations were low for this one. nowhere to go but up. everybody raved about the first one, so when i saw that, i think i was a little underwhelmed.

i think the strongest thing about both movies is the premise because it is intriguing for them to have to retrace their steps. but the weakest is definitely the payoff for the end.

also i thought there could have been more done with the language barrier of being in thailand. they could've been anywhere, really.

overall, it's not terrible. it's not that good, and it's definitely not great. it is, however, a bit funnier than the first one. and it takes a few more risks. galifiniakis is still the best character; but in this, i actually cared more about what happened than in the first. probably because in the first one, we didn't ever get to know the groom, doug, at all throughout the movie. and so there wasn't a lot of investment to give. but in this, we do like stewart and we want to see him succeed. for that, this movie works a little better.

neither one knew when to end, though. both wore out their welcome.
