Nope, if you remember, before Ricketts could by the Cubs he had lunch with Uncle Jerry.

Jerry wanted Ricketts to get this team because this was exactly the Scenario he wanted. One guy with enough cash to buy the team and keep them afloat, but not enough intelligence to field a good baseball team.

Sounds like the dad wants you to know that he was the one who fronted the whole thing to please his son and that he shouldn't be held accountable. Makes his son sound like an idiot for not being a good negotiator as well.

Of course, they haven't played all the tapes -- I'm sure that would clear everyone.

Hey,that sounds familiar. I said this about two years ago on this very website! Reinsdorf was pulling the strings on who gets the Cubs. People on here giggle at my comments, call me names, mock me. Here is a BIG FU to all the doubters. I was taking an educated guess on what was going on but I knew the spiteful Reinsdorf was calling the shots in the biggest conspiracy since the Kennedy assasination.....AND PRINT IT!

I also predicted this would happen. People would laugh that Jerry had any involvement.

Fact is his hands were all over this.

1. If you want to buy a MLB team you need Jerry's approval. It's why Cuban just dropped it, he knew he had no chance with Jerry's influence and said as much in a statement.

2. I would say Ricketts was BY FAR the least qualified to own this team, yet, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chairman of the NEW OWNERSHIP COMMITTEE, gave approval to Ricketts.

3. Remember the Illinois Sports Facility Authority looking into buying Wrigley and making PSL's? While Jerry is not on the board of the ISFA, he runs it as much as anyone can. Him and his buddy Jim Thompson have given out meaningless board positions to Jerry's kronies for years.

While the first three are facts, I do believe this is exactly how Jerry visioned this going down. A "kid" owning a team, of which he has never owned before and ruining it.

Mike Reinsdorf, who is now Bulls President and will be the Sox President, has been training for the last 20+ years. From building stadiums, to owning minor league teams, to attending league meetings for years in the NBA and MLB and Jerry finally felt he was ready to run a team,

Why would Jerry truely think Tom Ricketts was ready to run a team? Because his dad made a lot of money?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Jerry had influence in this decision. Isn't he the one that led the charge against Cuban being involved? That alone is tampering (in the literal sense).

Twenty-nine NBA owners voted for Cuban after he bought the majority interest of the Mavericks in 2000. One didn't. That one was Reinsdorf, who happily will remind you of the final tally.

The powerful Reinsdorf isn't a Cuban fan.

Reinsdorf would have been stupid not to push for a weak owner of the Cubs and Reinsdorf isn't stupid.

Reinsdorf was the only NBA owner to vote against Cuban to buy the Mavs, even when he knew it would be passed.

And he sent Mike to make that vote

Blackhawks and their success killed the Cubs.

Whatever marketing acumen the Cubs organization once had left when John McDonough moved from the North to the West side to do for the Blackhawks what he did for the Cubs.

And then for those legions of W flag waving Cubs-to-Blackhawks fans to experience the Blackhawks overcoming what looked like a certain first round exit vs Nashvegas last Spring with half a shot clock to go in game 5 at the UC and then go on to win it all...tough to go back to rooting for the lovable losers once you've tasted #winning.

The problem I have is with Ricketts' comments to his dad about win or lose, they sell out every game.

It's just not true any more. It hasn't been the case since 2006. Sure lots of sold tickets, but not all of them sold. Plenty of empty seats over the last few months of 2006. That trend happened again last year and has carried forward to 2011. It's become solely about winning on the north side.

For a dope like me to see this 5 years ago and for Fanboy Ricketts not to see this is incredibly concerning. This guy has no pulse of the team or fan base. And I don't see how ticket prices and concessions will decrease as this guy becomes more broke. Obviously payroll, among other expenses, will continue to take a hit for years to come.

And while I don't agree entirely with Hussra, I understand the viewpoint. Everyone else in this city has had recent success except the Cubs. What's the point of continuing to go to Wrigley when you can spend your time and money on a successful Chicago sports team?

I dont know why its so odd to you that an owner of a business, who had a say in who owned his primary competition, would use that sway to his advantage.

this is very good insight...i had no idea about this...but i understand everything ur saying, it makes sense...it actually really really does...probly becuz if I were Jerry, I'd think the exact same way...no doubt that Ricketts would strike me as dumb as well...I mean heck, he struck me as dumb during the Lou-quit press conference last year...and thats just me watching it on TV, no associations or inside info whatsoever!!!

the comment made by daddy - "that sounds like a good business....." tells you all you want to know about how the cubs will be run. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is the main objective not winning. the ricketts clan will end up being hated more than the mclasky family. hopefully fans will stay away from the park and the ricketts will lose $$$ and be forced to sell the team at a loss.

The last thing Reinsdorf would want is a strong owner for the Cubs.

I think Reinsdorf feared Cuban's money behind the Cubs, and Cuban knew this too, since Cuban tried to allay Reinsdorf's fears.

http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/cuba ... o-bury-sox

Here is an interesting tidbit in the article...

Published TV ratings and other published measures showed that the Cubs were more popular than the Sox, yet before I even started looking at the Cubs, I knew from my discussions with people in the NBA that the Cubs and Sox were treated as equals in their business dealings. That was great for the Sox, not so good for the Cubs. Im guessing the people in the Sox organization knew, that if I bought the team, particularly at the price point that was being suggested in the papers, there was no way I would just accept parity in future business dealings. I was going to have to try to negotiate the very best deals possible for the Cubs, even if it was at the expense of the White Sox.

This thought process isn't meatball...it's just correct.

Remember who told you from day one that Ricketts was a turd & would be a lousy owner.
