After the game Z calls the team embarrassing several times, and a AAA team. Then he calls out Marmol for his pitch selection to Theriot, saying he should know he can't hit a fastball, lol. Everything Z said is true.

Whether what he said is true or not, you don't rip your teammates like that...especially when you've had less than a stellar year yourself.

If there's one guy who should keep his mouth shut, it's Z.

What a train wreck this whole organization is.

I have no problem with Z saying this. He is one of the few people in the organization who actually gives a shit about winning. Lou Quade doesn't want his golfing buddies mad at him so all he does is hang his head and make up excuses for this shit. I hope they trade him so he can be part of a better organization before his career is over.

His numbers are pretty much on par with his career numbers which means he has been pretty good. And on this team, "pretty good" means you are the best player on the team.

Plus, ripping his teammates can't make them play much worse than they are now, so who gives a shit. That was the best entertainment we have seen from the Cubs in weeks.

Just read this on the tribune, about Z's comments, and the first sentence maybe why he said, this could be what gets Zambrano out of town.

Is Zambrano just saying what the fans are thinking.

John Kruk on ESPN just agreed with Zambrano, saying on Theriot's at bat, that if he can't catch the fastball, stay with those and not go to sliders, even though that's the number 1 pitch for Marmol.

not sure how Theriot can't hit a fastball

Hawk harrelson said today that if u cant hit a fastball, u wont stay in the Big Leagues

so, which one is right?

Theriot is a 6 year veteran, so youd think he can hit a fastball to stay around that long, right?

Too much being made of this. RP is not the issue. This lineup sucks,no HR threat (Pena's 8 HR's=Big F'n Deal). No major league line-up should have Colvin & Koy Hill in it.

I'm glad someone on this team is stepping up. He's just telling it like it is.

It's true that you won't break the big leagues (or stay very long if you do) if you can't hit a fastball. My guess (without seeing the game or AB) is that he couldn't keep up with Marmol's fastball in that plate appearance.

Hopefully this is his public waiving of his no trade clause.

hopefully?

he's our best starting pitcher, and he is a winner no matter what anyone says...if he was on a winning team he'd be a top contributor

Right. Trade him. Get prospects and salary cap relief. He won't be on this team when we are good again.

Right now....Z is the only player on that roster that makes me want to watch a game. I like Castro and Barney and am interested in seeing how the kids perform....but Z is the main event on that team. I am dead serious when I say I would rather watch him bat than just about anyone on that roster not mentioned above.

Aside from a few players I would not mind seeing this entire organization slide into a volcano and melt into oblivion. There are so many things wrong on so many levels that it is entirely possible that this current shitfest will ensue for a decade if not to eternity. The may 21st doomsday should have set its fucking alarm and shown up to claim organization at least. They don't even deserve to have their uniforms laundered.

Z is a competitor and one of the few actually doing his job. Calling out Marmol may have not been that bright, but calling the team AAA is right on. He should have gone further and said the manager and ownership are minor league as well. As to trading him, if he waives his Jim Hendry no trade clause and you can get real prospects in return, move his ass. The only problem is the organization's inability to assess talent. Knowing Hendry, he'd eat 80% of the money and take back shit prospects.

Do you Zambrano apologists realize what you are saying? If he wants to rip Hendry for putting together a pile of crap, fine. But who the hell is he--making $17m for a mediocre year-- to criticize specific plays by his teammates?

Im sure the players could find dozens of idiotic mental errors by the almighty Z. He is a fucking cancer, period.

They're only cancers when they suck. Bradley sucked and was a cancer. Silva wasn't a cancer last year when he was serviceable. When he started to fall apart in spring training, boom, cancer. Zambrano is their best starter, so no cancer. If he tanks to get traded, whaddya know? Cancer.

His $17M salary is not his fault. He is playing to his exact standards he has set over his career. If he was 0-10, then he should shut his face, but he's not.

The bottom line is this is a franchise in free fall. Let's just hope Ricketts pulls the trigger and brings in some real baseball people as Team President, GM and manager. The more embarrassing they are, the more likely a total purge happens.

Z has been a cancer most of his career, even when he's been good.

I agree which is why I hope they continue to lose and lose and lose, thus forcing the bean counters hand for a total purge.

I wonder if Z would have said anything if he didn't lose a win? Funny how he kept his mouth shut for the whole year until now. I guess the "competitor" in him finally took over. What a paper tiger.

I think the real question is if Z would have said anything if it was another pitcher that took the loss....a team loss. His statements are still true, but since it was his win, or his last two wins that were blown....that made him say what he said. So, I dont think he says that if it were another pitcher....and to me that is NOT a leader, but a selfish ballplayer. Whatever...I'm still glad he said what he said, because its true, and light needs to shine as bright as possible on this shitty ownership & "leadership" that is running this mess of a club. I sort of hope they gey get swept by the Reds too. Fuck them!

^I don't think Zambrano is being selfish at all. This is a huge stretch of games coming up and the Cubs had a cance to win the 1st 2 against a div rival. The bats aren't hitting, bullpen blowing games and the manager deciding to allow Pujols beat you 2 games in a row which is completely enexcusable and horrible managing. Someone needed to step up and Big Z is the only player on this team with the balls to tell it how it is. If the team doesn't like it then they'd better start playing and managing like a major league team

On May 16, when the Cubs were still in the race, playing a division rival, Zambrano gave up 6 runs -- including a homerun to the Reds' Jonny Gomes, who was hitting .188 and hadn't homered in a month -- effectively costing the Cubs the game. Should Marmol have blasted Z for his pitch selection/execution?
