Okay you're Hendry

Besides being in most cases here a lot heavier, in some cases a different gender, some cases taller and almost all cases richer.

You have to know come July your phone will be ringing.

Do you trade him?

I always say you always listen but I'd have to be overwhelmed.

I'd be more likely to trade Marmol and move forward with Marshall as the closer.

Absolutely not a journeyman lefty reliever is absolutely the only untouchable piece on this team.

I like Marshall but if you are all wringing your hands about whether or not to trade him then you are nuts.

All championship teams are built around the 7th/8th inning guy.

As I said in another thread, the only un-tradeable piece is Castro.

I wouldn't be against trading Marshall, but how do you call a guy that has played for the same team his whole career, a journeymen?

OK bad descriptor. Go with Veteran then. My point was he isn't exactly a star caliber player and untradable piece. Sidenote.....coolest Sean Marshall story I heard is that he would play MLB on the Playstation and make himself the starter and challenge people on the network as the Cubs.

I'm not against trading him.....But
he's left handed, can spot start, not old, always healthy AND cheap.
I would have to get a top 3 prospect OR midlevel prospect and you take a big chunk of one of our bad contracts.

I am not sure what you would be able to get for Marshall. Maybe some middling Single A prospect?

I wouldn't trade Marshall, Marmol or anyone for that matter, if all your going to receive is minor league fodder or major league mediocrity. Now if you can unload a huge chunk of salary, thats another issue. But I don't think a guy like Marshall is going to bust your budget and trading players just for the sake of trading players doesn't accomplish anything.

The Cubs traded Maddux in '06 and got back Cesar Izturis.

And call me crazy, but it shouldn't take the cubs 3 or 4 years to get back in the division race. Three different times in the last 10 years we have seen Cub teams improve 20+ games from 1 year to the next. Granted you need a shrewd GM, and that means someone other than Hendry. But a guy like Marshall is probably more valuable to the Cubs by keeping him, then trading him away and getting a prospect that in all likelihood will never see the major leagues.

Maddux was at the end of his career. Marmol and Marshall are both dependable bullpen arms, and have many years ahead of them. That's not a very good comparison. The Cubs will not get top rated prospects for either of these guys, but they sure as hell won't get back Cesar Izturis either.

Maddux started for the Dodgers down the stretch and started a playoff game, and starting pitchers usually will bring in more in trade value than set up men.

But either way, if you at best going to get a mid level prospect, I would rather keep a guy like Marshall. The Cub farm system is full of mid level prospects.

There is no defense for the Maddux for Izturis trade

I guess you liked Lilly and Theriot for Dewitt too?

Marshall is valuable...trade him and then we'll be crying for quality relievers, and in a knee-jerk reaction, hendry will sign 3 average relievers for too much money

same with Marmol...leave it alone...we havent developed quality position players as long as Ive been alive, what makes u think that the "prospects" you get for Marmol will turn into anything...stop acting as if the prospects u get will turn out to be good...when you have a great pitcher, just keep him...it's what u strive for, and u wanna now trade him?
