You get a real chance to be the main writer/visionist of a primetime TV show. It could be a sitcom, drama, chick show, reality show, news show(SHARK), political show, etc. What premise or idea or whatever would your show be about?

Mine would be a remake of BJ and the Bear...nothing like a story about a man and his monkey.

The story of my friends when we were reckless yutes.

The time Tommy Jensen got drunk and stole his dad's car and drove down the street sideswiping parked cars when he was 14.

The time Kevin Edison fucked his girlfriend in her basement on the washing machine in 7th grade.

The time Jimmy Hara got on Lake Shore Drive at 4am going the wrong way and almost got us killed.

Good times.

What does it mean to duck a girlfriend? If that is a typo, then in 7th grade I'm calling BS. He was lying to guys.

Typo. Stoopid auto-correct.

It's true.

Find it hard to believe. 8th grade, yes. 7th? That's a stretch. Had to be the best half second of Kevin Edison's young life.

What year was the Duke-UNLV Final Four game?

There were 5 of us watching the game in the girl's basement. Kevin took her into the laundry room next door. She sounded excited.

Sounds like UNLV weren't the only people being paid that night.

My show would be a Survivor like reality show with actual "eliminations." The only participant would be Jim Belushi.

i'll take this seriously actually, since it seemed like a serious question that was turned into a friday boredom thread.

i've actually written treatments for these but never have taken either seriously enough to pen the pilots:

Berkeley Mutual

A somewhat surrealistic drama centered around an independent bank in Berkeleythat is being threatened by a takeover by a large usurper bank. Tells the lives of everything from the CEO to the tellers. a tinge of the flavor of "northern exposure".

Sitcom

sort of like a "larry sanders show" where the show is about a sitcom. the characters include the show runners, creators, writers, and the actors and the network execs. where the show would start, the show has just become a hit so the cast is demanding bigger salaries while the writers are demanding more creative control and the network execs are dipping their pen in the ink more...the creators have sold out and don't want to deal with it. there's also a promising young actor who should be getting more airtime and wants to write for the show as well but only the original creator sees the talent and no one wants to give him more to work with. kind of an homage to the story of eddie murphy at SNL.

Professional Help

sitcom about a therapist who sees strange patients, and is herself very lonely and doesn't practice what she preaches. she's an intellectual snob who sticks her nose at women who sell themselves so she scoffs when a new patient is a stripper who considers leaving the business to start a family. the therapist's assistant (who has a crush on her) tells her to treat her like the other patients but the therapist instead patronizes the stripper until finally driving her away. the pilot ends with her at her favorite bar telling the bartender about her woes, and when she gets a phone call from the stripper, she doesn't respond. the stripper leaves a message that she's gone into the porn business, and the therapist realizes that she's betrayed what she did this job for in the first place and vows to someday try and get her back so she can tell her to do the right thing.

Z, my original post was made with serious intentions, but obviously also with the understanding it would lead to many jokes. I was pretty sure I'd get a few good ideas from you and wasn't disappointed.

If I could I think it'd be cool to make a slightly more serious, topical version of workaholics as bored soldiers in garrison, but obviously no network would consider carrying such a show.

yeah that came out a little more pretentious than i meant. heh. like any "hey guys, give me your thoughts" thread, it's gonna elicit those responses.

i like your idea...kind of like a serial "jarhead". my brother in law, who was a soldier and served two tours in iraq, absolutely adores the book, and liked the movie too. but it'd be interesting to see the doldrum life as a soldier to paint a real picture of people, rather than the black and white either victim or total hero that hollywood typically does. (that's why i liked "hurt locker" so much).

If Blanche is disgusted, I can't even imagine what that video of Free Ajent and Bea Arthur entails.

Exactly right. Alot of them(soldiers are "us"'and "them" Us haven't deployed) said the burning shit/ensuing psychosis/feud/recovery thing couldnt be more symbolic of many of their experiences.

But to the original point, as you can clearly tell, there's thousands of young people in the Army who joined for a variety of "why the hell not" reasons and some of the paths and journeys of these guys are definitely cinema-worthy

or just the armed forces in general--in just the few days i spent down in san antonio for my sister's air force boot camp graduation, i still saw some characters even though AF is considered the pussiest of the armed forces.

it's just a shame that no one wants to look at them that way. it's rarely been done.

Right on. Time to shed the guilt of Vietnam and start being real when it comes to this demographic of people. We've seen both nauseating extreme views represented mainstream, some independent, original thought and material on the topic would be pretty cool indeed

Put some work in Zack

I once submitted this to a network:

A old washed up comedian tries to make a comeback by starting a reality show where he moves in with a boring, average midwestern family.

I'd call it: "Jackie & the Weinsteins" starring Jerry Stiller.
The part of the daughter would be played by Audrina Partridge.

Add Danny Zederman and call it something like "All Eyes on Us."
