I'd fire fucking Guillen tonight. This fucking Santos fell apart. A.J. was looking at the fucking dugout like, "aren't you coming to get this motherfucker???????" Everyone in the entire fucking world knew this bastard could not record the final out. Guillen lost this game. That's it. No one else to blame. It's gone way beyond "I got to show confidence in my players" with this fucking bullpen. It's now or never. This team has to make a move now. Another game blown. You had this game in the fucking bag. Gained another game on Cleveland and Detroit and Guillen killed this team tonight.

It's one thing to get beat and lose 6-0, but to lose like this is fucking bullshit. The Sox have lost a lot of games like this and it has to stop.

Don't let this be where Oakland wins this series too.

No. It's on Santos. No one else.

Nobody on, 2 out. Do your job.

Isn't it the manager's job to see when the guy doesn't have it? Santos has pitched for two years. He's obviously not polished enough to be the set in stone closer for a contending team. It's not like you're helpless. It wasn't one swing of the bat. There was plenty of time for the manager to save this game from Santos.

Both on Santos and Ozzie. Ozzie should have gone out there and got him. The game was in reach still. Oz needs to go after this year. His macho bullshit is tired and wastes winning chances.

I'm not gonna blame Ozzie for Santos wetting the bed.

When he overmanages and decides to bunt and try to steal, I'll blame him.

No. He's your closer and you expect him to get out of it even when he's struggles. Hell, he only let up one run this season until now. Even with the bases loaded he still could have gotten out of it and didn't. You still expect him to get out of it with the bags loaded. Santos is the only one to blame. He had 2 outs and just lost it. You expect him to get that one more out as the closer. You don't warm anybody up. You don't pull him with his succes rate this year so far. It's just the way it is.

No one expected him to get out of it. If they did they're baseball stupid. Guillen accepted the loss to protect Santos' ego. I understand the manager has to look big picture, but there have been too many of these losses already this season. When this team comes up a game short, remember this one. Besides that, Santos blew the game his last time out. You don't warm anybody up? This isn't fucking Mariano Rivera we're talking about. It's a guy with 12 career saves.

Now to put the icing on the cake, Oakland will take the next two. The Sox need to be more smart and learn to adjust when needed. Santos fucked up bad, but you just can't let him sit out there and self-destruct. Bring in Crain for the final out or Sale. Don't humiliate this kid by being macho. Ozzie is a fucking douche nozzle.

Everything is fine, by the way. We'll be neck and neck with the Tigers come mid September. We'll win it or lose it then. Tigers are gonna have their fair share of these type games too.

I did. Hell, it's baseball. There was always the chance the guy hits it hard right at somebody. Christ, good hitters make outs 70% of the time. He just needed to get one more out. He's your closer. If he had been struggling before this night, of course, you'd be right to say pull him. He hadn't been. Everything was done right. Santos just fucked it up.

Ugghh this was a tough one.

Santos had two outs and nobody on. This isn't Ozzie's fault. Nobody would start warming up a closer than. THE PLAYER (Santos) BLEW IT. Some fans are so fucking obnoxious.

The Tigers lost, Cleveland lost. We didn't lose position. It could have been worse. Its June and this team is playing well. Rios and Dunn are showing signs of life. These games happen. Get at them tomorrow.

I didn't want him warming up a guy with two outs and nobody on, bonehead. But there's no reason he couldn't have gotten someone up when the lead run was on first base. He sure as fuck did get Harrell up after the game was already over, didn't he?

Hossa we know Santos was directly responsible for the loss, but to let him basically shit all over himself is just bad managing IMO. After it was 5-4 I would have had someone in the pen. Wins are hard to come by and this loss was preventable.

He still was 94+ with the fastball. Granted, the hitter knew he had no slider as Hawk had said. But the next guy coming in with the bases loaded had the same percentage of a chance to get that last out as Santos did with his fastball as his only pitch. Keep in mind, that guy would have been rushed to get warmed up and would have come in a spot for which he's not used to coming in.

Give me a break, Santos could have easily drawn a popup, gotten a strike, regained control, etc. Unless Ozzie has the ability the see in the future, this game is on Santos. No pitcher is perfect. What manager is going to start warming somebody up with two outs and nobody on? None. Especially when the only person available is Lucas fucking Harrell. Santo's had two strike counts, all it was going to take was one pitch.

The As were due for a win soon, this shit happens. The most important thing is that the Sox come out and win tomorrow.

It's not an ideal situation. We're over a third of the way through the season and desperately trying to get to .500 with a giant payroll. I understand your philosophy with a proven closer and a team where the stakes weren't so high. Santos hasn't earned that kind of position. He didn't have it tonight. I'm not mad at him for that. Sometimes a guy doesn't have it. This was a loss that didn't have to be. There was plenty of time to save this game. In addition, now you don't have your top reliever tomorrow because he just threw four innings worth of pitches.

Did you really think he was going to record the last out? I knew he couldn't. Watch the replay. You'll see Pierzynski knew he couldn't. Yeah, I guess he could have gotten lucky with a rocket hit right at a guy or a guy striking out on a bad pitch. There was no reason to gamble on that. Don't tell me one day that the team is bigger than the players and the next day play for one guy's ego.

Based on what Santos did last year and to this point this year I hold him in higher regard than you do. Riveria? No. Nobody is. But he has a long enough track record for me to think he'll get out of it. I felt good about him getting out of it even though he didn't have it. He just didn't.

Yes, I thought that he was going to get the final out. Again, he had two outs with nobody on base. Thats quite a few chances. That is why this loss is frustrating. But its baseball.

So the armchair managers are going to stick a guy just up from triple AAA with one appearance into a game save situation over the guy who has been doing it all year? If Crain was available then I could see your point. People are right, this loss was preventable, all it would have taken was for Santos to do his job and get the final out. Make one good pitch strike three pitch or induce an out. He didn't, it sucks. The season isn't over.

I don't think the season is over. But there have already been too many of these types of losses. Eventually the season will be over.

They've lost 5 games where they've had the lead going into the ninth.

None of those are the fault of the manager.

Bottom line: The 29 other MLB managers would have done the exact same thing Ozzie did given the situation tonight. That's a fact.

Nothing is the manager's fault.

Terry's Peeps = Joe Cowley

It's starting to make sense.

I agree that most would have. Go with a righty vs. righties, a lefty vs. lefties, bring your closer in to pitch the ninth with a two run lead and either win it or let him blow the game. That's push button managing. It's the way to take the least heat.
