Heard this on the Score this weekend...what would Cub fans think about moving Marmol? He might be the only guy on the roster that could actually net some decent prospects. Given the shelf-life of relief pitchers, it might not be a bad idea. By the time the Cubs are good again, Marmol may be bad.

The uneducated fans would be pissed. The fans that want to create an organization that could win every year would say go violate another team for Marmol.

Its a great idea. He is worth alot to some playoff teams. He hasn't blown up yet which means he is due. When saving a game matters for the Cubs he will probably be in his decline. Closers come and go with a quickness. The main concern I have is that Hendry is the douche making the deal and I have no faith in him getting anything worthwhile back in return.

Looks like Phil Mcracken covered this pretty well in the above thread.

Particularly when considering his unexplained drop in velocity over the last year... yes. Move him. Quickly.

The Cubs should trade everything that's not nailed down.

Keyser, I have been advocating that since the debacle of 2008. This has been a poorly constructed team for a long time. I have posted this before but it bears repeating. In, I think about 2005, Hendry was asked if he ever thought about trading Aram. He immediately quipped, "if I trade Ramirez, who will play third base for us". I knew right then we were fucked. Hendry has no vision and that shows in the rosters he has thrown out there over the last five seasons. He's a boob.

I couldn't agree more, Reason. The obvious problem is Hendry is the one making the deals but maybe the blind squirrel will find a nut.

This is definitely the problem. He needs to get 1 can't miss prospect and another will potential. I don't think Hendry can do that. Maybe if Byrd gets healthy and you package them together you can swing a solid 3 prospect deal.

If the Phillies aren't sold on Mad Dog I would like to see Marmol go there for Jonathan Singleton, Brody Colvin and Jesse Biddle. They can have Byrd if they want too.

Outside of Starlin Castro, no one on the Cubs is worth anything close to a 'can't miss' prospect from another team.

Marmol, Wood, and Marshall will be asked about as the deadline nears. You can almost always fleece a contender that is in need of a solid relief pitcher at the trade deadline.

I guess I should rephrase can't miss because there are not that many of them out there. They can get some high ceiling but low level guys.

We have no pieces that would net us a can't miss...

Unless I misread your meaning.

That's what I tried to say. Unpossible that I fail English

It's definitely possible to get a couple of 'good' prospects that are rated higher than Vitters etc for them. I don't trust Hendry to make it happen
