I like the show and seems I'm one of the few. I think I was talking w/ RPB that night that MFD played they have more insight and knowledge as to how the whole "sports world" works just by being on the beats that they have been on.
Plus they seem to get better interviews than the other shows just cause they know so many other beat guys and what not.
Mully just seems like a fan who knows people and stories.

I think you really need to listen when Mulligan talks Bears.

Example, talking about Plaxico. He is there for the Bears and the Bears have zero interest in talking to him from as good of a source as I can get, is what Mulligan said.

I can only guess that it is Angelo. Regardless, he is not rehashing twitter feeds, he is reporting what he learned..aka INSIGHT

Mulligan is one of 6 reporters Angelo invited in to talk with 2 years ago, he must get something out of that?

Zach was invited, but was then asked to get drinks for everyone.

I like Mulligans almost drunk style of radio and I agree he would do better in another forum, not saying he is for everyone either, not trying to convince others to like him.

It's like Murph. You can hate the guy, but he had every play in both Cubs and Sox games every night ready to talk about. True, that doesn't exactly convince me he has any kind of a life, but facts wise, he knew his stuff.

Biggs is the football info king. No doubt there

Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but if there is seriously zero interest in talking to Plaxico then they really do not having any interest in trying to win. Big time receiver could come in, but no.....Bears got it covered and they like their talent.

I agree with them, Jeff. No doubt the Bears need an upgrade at WR. But Plaxico hasn't played in 2 years, and he is coming back from a gunshot wound. Yeah, it was a mild wound by all accounts but you cannot bank on him doing much of anything. If the Bears want to bring him in for a work out, I'm all for it. But to guarantee him any more than the league minimum and 1 year is not smart.

I agree, but to not show interest in a big time guy like that seems kinda stupid. I'd be all for a workout and league minimum too. Something tells me that the Bears would be outsmarted somehow anyway.

So what you're saying bf is that Mully is only useful from August until January.

Well, the super bowl is in Feb and Camp starts at the end of June, plus they do this thing called "The Draft"

In case you missed it "NFL is THE KING" in ratings. Part of the reason for this is that they promo their product all year. Even when they cool off in Feb, they start having combines March 1, which are now a 3 day TV event.

To say the NFL is a August to January league is a poor observation on your behalf.

I'm shocked that bigfan is such a big fan of Mully because Mully is a big Sox fan.

I don't know what there is to like about Mulligan - he totally comes off as a guy who "sounds nice" but goes from nice guy to raging butthole in no time flat (over something small). I know this will bring out all of the "hey man, I went to a remote one time and Mulligan gave me a reacharound in the handicap stall because I mentioned how my wife just left me", so be it. I find him to be a blustery bag of nothing - he's not really insulting, but he doesn't really bring anything to the table. He's decent enough at getting through a segment, sort of like Ryan Seacrest does an passable job of getting the judges on Idol to commercial break....big whoop! His word usage sucks, his (what I assume he thinks are) cute little sayings and constant references to ethnicity, and his crazy screaming are just bad.

Oh, and as little as I actually listen I am AMAZED at how often he and his partner are "out sick today, _________ is filling in".

5 AM and you would be out a ton too. I think they want these guys to take time off now, as they really want them for Football season.

Eh, would I?

How many THOUSANDS, nay millions, of people start work early? Are these guys mentally worn out from the pressure of doing brain surgery at that hour? Perhaps it's the physical nature of climbing up inside of those giant wind turbines to do maintenance before the sun starts heating up the Earth? No, wait, they waddle into a climate controlled studio with their Dunkin' Donuts' coffee and belch out the same simplistic sports observations that 1 in every 2 males in the US do at their REAL jobs.

I'm not saying that he's talentless - or that it's the simplest job in the world - but cry me a river about the hours. I honestly have no idea if both guys are still writing, or if they have other jobs, but I'm sure they're getting paid well enough to make this be their ONLY job. If they choose to do other work, making this shift "so tough", that's THEIR choice. To me, consistency in an on-air team is important......so while I think this pairing sucks in general, I find it insulting that they (and guys like meatpants) randomly call in sick or "have" to take a day off ALL THE TIME. Clearly I'm in the minority here, as it doesn't seem to bother too many other people (though I think, in this case, people just don't like this show enough to care who is in studio for more than a few days at a time).

Mike North was/is a colossal douche, but (at least in the beginning) he worked hard to produce a unique and fun show. Of course we all know what ultimately happened to North.....and even a guy like Murph.....but love 'em or hate 'em, they at least made an effort not to be the same old kind of crap (that most of the guys now on the Score, full and part time hosts, seem to be at this point).

Um, yeah, not really. They come in and talk nonstop on a 4-hour shift. The common guy might have 5-10 minutes of sports "thought" a day. Yeah, and they break for ads (so its less than 4 hours)

And then go off and be a columnist/beat guy for the rest of the day. And watch enough of the evening's games to have "thoughts" for tomorrow's show.

I agree with Beebo. It's a tough job talking sports for 3-4 hours a day. I'm sure most of the critics on here (me included) would find it's not that easy. I don't hate Mully & Hanley. I also hardly ever listen to them. Giddy Aunt,my ass.

Oh, dude. Please, no. The last time (IMO) North was listenable was the "Wise Guys" afternoon show with Buffone. The morning show morphed from "bad" to "utterly unlistenable".

You bring him back, you get the same. Whatever Jiggetts could do to balance him wasn't working in 'Monsters' and 'Monsters & Money'

North has, at best, morphed into someone best contained within a segment. Like Frank Caliendo or Jimmy Kimmel before that. Just an utter cartoon character.

On the whole I like Mully.

[b]The good: [\b]The ability to move a thought/discussion from point "A" to point "B" while recognizing the necessary pace for this to transpire over a 4 hour show.

The ability to connect with "Everyman" while still flaunting some press access.

Showing patience with callers.

The ability to prevent Brian Hanley from sounding like a rhetorical dumbass.

[b]The bad:[\b] The "shouting" voice.

Applying Mike Murphy-like naivety with 15+ years of press credentials.

Taking credit for being smarter than athletes and then complaining that they aren't that smart.

Trashing coaches for poor answers to borderline idiotic questions.

Giving Hanley a too frequent pass on his Murphy-like idiocy.

[b]All in all[\b] Mulligan helps make a great start to the Score sports day. Enough substance to get past the next show's redundant laps in the shallow pool of the superficial while allowing B&B the opportunity to be the near opposite while continuing with what has already been introduced by M&H.

Tom Shaer couldn't be bothered with facts and wanted more to be a personality. Mike Murphy is best described as a lovable hack, but playing sports dumb grows old over time. Mike North had the world in his hands but jerked it away. So in a sense, by default, I like M&H but they too could screw up this good thing but don't. At some point in the day it should be more about sports than someone's pseudo life or personality.

he's gotten better with his stutterring uh's lately, i've noticed, but i only get to listen to one segment on the way to work. his fake laugh is annoying but other than that, i don't mind him.

and he is a nice guy in person. maybe it's an act, but eh...
