Chicago Cubs (28-40) 5th Place NL Central 5-5 Last 10
New York Yankees (39-28) 2nd Place AL East 4-6 Last 10

Doug Davis LHP 0-5 5.90 ERA
Freddy Garcia RHP 5-5 3.60 ERA

Davis threw 108 pitches over five innings in his last start against the Phillies and walked five. He admitted he made things harder on himself by trying to be too picky with his pitch selection. He can't afford to do that vs. the Yankees.

Garcia bounced back from a 1 2/3-inning outing against Boston to pitch 6 2/3 strong innings in a win Sunday against Cleveland. He is holding opposing hitters to a .231 average with runners in scoring position on the season.

Ryan Dempster RHP 5-5 5.48 ERA
A.J Burnett 6-5 4.09 ERA

Dempster pitched a gem in his last start against the Brewers, throwing seven shutout innings. He also struck out seven. Dempster is 0-2 in three career starts against the Yankees.

Burnett went 7 2/3 innings, giving up just one run on five hits in a 1-0 loss to the Indians in his last start. It was his third outing allowing just one run, and he has not been the winning pitcher in any of them.

Randy Wells RHP 1-1 5.63 ERA
CC Sabbathia RHP 8-4 3.28 ERA

Wells did not get a decision in his last start against the Brewers, giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings and striking out two. This will be his fifth start since coming off the disabled list, and first ever against the Yankees.

Sabathia followed the trend of bouncing back after a rough outing against Boston and held Texas to four runs over seven innings in his last start, his fifth win in his last six starts.

Obviously the marquee matchup here is Davis vs. Garcia. I am feeling good about the Cubs right now for some reason I can't put my finger on. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

This is a very special series. When the teams take the field, the fans will be able to see two (2) franchises that have combined to win twenty-seven (27) World Series Championships in the last century! Ha ha ha! Laughing out loud at that very subtle dig!

I do not want anybody to think that I am sacrilegious. There is hardly anybody who loves The Lord, and who hates Satan, more than me. Maybe there are some Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn who think they are more devoted to The Lord, but they do not love Jesus. Do you not think Jesus might be considered part of the deal? I definitely think that, and that is why I will stand by my original statement. If you do not believe me, go ahead and sue me. I know many Judges and I will have your case dismissed within a week.

Although I do not believe that Almighty God is very interested in the day to day operations of Major League Baseball, I do believe that He has, to a certain extent, blessed The Glorious New York Yankees. I have believed this since I was a child, I believe it now, and I will believe it until I die. In fact, I am very much looking to confirm this when I get to The Lord's Eternal Kingdom, but I am not really that much in a hurry to do so.

Why, therefore, has God seemingly cursed His beloved team with their current inept General Manager? Why are The Glorious New York Yankees opening this great series with senior citizen Freddy Garcia on the mound? I do not know. It is at times like these that I drop to my knees and thank God for all His blessings, and I specifically say to Him that His plan definitely trumps my hopes and expectations. I would like The Glorious New York Yankees to win the World Series every single year. Obviously, this has not happened. What am I going to do, turn into a miserable atheist like Mr. Belvidere?

No thank you. PLAY BALL!

Impressive amount of effort on this series thread Phil. The Houston sweep crushed my soul with this season

Slow at work today and started this thread trying to get myself pumped up for some Cubs baseball. Took about a month off of paying too much attention to the team but with the Evil Empire in town I figured its worth the effort. I think I might swing by Wrigley on Saturday to see what kind of atmostphere this whole street fest deal has. Does anybody know if they are going to allow open containers on Clark or what? Additionally I am starting the DJ Lemahieu bandwagon. Good seats still available.

 yeah but I got it from the Cubs site not the Yankees. I have alot of time on my hands but scouting the last 4 Doug Davis starts in depth isn't high on my priority list.

Factually speaking, the 2 teams have combined to win those twenty-seven (27) titles in the last 88 years.

Cubs fans can take solace in the fact that the two teams have combined to win forty-one (41) Pennants in that time span, as the Yankees have won forty (40) and the Cubs have won one (1) in 1945.

The Cubs have not, however, won a World Series since moving into their new ballpark while the Yankees have won in their new park.

What?

Pennant = AL and NL Champions, respectively.

The Cubs won multiple pennants in the 20's and 30's.

The Cubs have 7 pennants after, but not including, their 1908 season.

If you use the 88 years time period, it gives them 5.

Yes, that makes it look so much better! Ha ha!

Well then I stand corrected, IMU. The glorious Cubs have won five (5) pennants in the last 88 years. But have won zero (0) in the last 65 years.

So it's the super-important Cubs-Yankees series, that has inexplicably been the focal point of the entire marketing campaign this year, and what's on the home of the Cubs, WGN good ol' channel 9? Fuckin' MAURY. Way to go, guys.

Noted criminal Michael Milken is on 720. He just said that last time the Yanks were here, he and Tommy Lasorda prayed for Eric Karros to play in the game, and then what should happen but Hee Seop Choi getting into a collision and going to the hospital. This is one of the strangest stories I've ever been told.

Random Cubs thought. I am on board with DeWitt playing everyday and hitting 3rd only because of how frustrated it makes some people on here.

I remember that game well! That was the first year that I really followed the Cubs wire-to-wire, after sorta picking up games whenever as a little kid and getting back on board at the tail end of 2002 (and yet I am still here). I remember them wheeling him out through one of the outfield gates as the crowd chanted "HEE-SEOP-CHOI, HEE-SEOP-CHOI." Bit of a turning point for us, as it got rid of crappy old Hee Seop Choi for a while. I momentarily felt kind of bad when we traded him for Mr. Pouty Pants, thinking it would endanger our then-vaunted PACIFIC RIM SCOUTING~!, but ultimately that worked out fairly well (the trade, not the scouting).

Speaking of Mr. Pouty Pants. His Dad was over there scouting the Pacific Rim while not wearing any pants.

I'm not wearing pants. I split my pants, and now I'm not wearing pants. Jay and Mother, sweet romance. Poor old Father has no pants.

I am going to pull a Steve Stone and pre-criticize Quade here. As good as Davis has been pitching I do not think I let him go out for the 8th inning here.

Fuk is under .300. Time for him to never see the field again this season. Its Montanez time. Quade once again shows his disdain for the youth movement and lets DJ rot on the bench until the very end of the game.
