With how Dirk was in interviews afterwards I'm starting to think Dirk went to the lockerroom right after the game to get high. For a guy that just won a title he was as exciting as a Eaglo Jeff post.

He's been great in the playoffs this year after fading his entire career let's not go overboard. I'm still going to say Drazen even though I'll be the only on. I think a young Sabonis was better. Probably the best Euro player ever.

Drazen's ceiling was a bit lower than what we just saw as Dirk's ceiling, IMO. Drazen is one of the few people who died too young that I don't think history looks on too kindly. He could've been one of the best of his generation easily and hardly any casual fans even know his name today. And this all happened in the last two decades.

I don't think sabonis was on their level but I haven't seen as much of young sabonis as I have drazen

Tremendous article on Dirk and the 2011 playoff run. RFDC - I think you'll really enjoy it.

Quote:
The 2014 Mavericks are probably going to lose to the Spurs in the first round, and losing to the Spurs is like losing to time or entropy. Dirk overcame Miami and their prickly excellence, but even he can’t last forever. He made a moment, and those of us who remember it fondly will hold on to it tight, but moments pass on.

You know all this. But I think you should watch him. Watch him now. Watch him spin, whirl, and shoot. Watch him evade time, howl at the moon, and not go to sleep. Watch him not make sense, and achieve that strange harmony only he can reach. Watch him and make of him as much as you can, as much as you need or want. Do this while all this beauty is still here to watch.

Too bad some people were too busy sucking Lebron's cock or Kobe's wang to notice Dir and Duncan just playing hall of fame ball I guess?

FF Thanks for sharing. Very good. His run to the title with the Mavs was probably my favorite non chicago sports moment.

Nowitzki's true shooting percentage and 3-point percentage are actually greater than Bird's and they have roughly equal efficient field goal percentages. I have no problem if you think Bird is better, but you really undersell Nowitzki if you suggest he's merely a good shooter for a big guy.

I never said he was "merely" a good shooter for a big guy. He's a great player. An All-Star. A Hall of Famer. A lot like Dave Cowens. He isn't Larry Bird though.

This is still mostly true but he’s closer to Bird than Cowens, I think that’s clear at this point. Not a gotcha, I don’t think this was a bad opinion at the time.

I don’t even give a shit if CH makes fun of the basketblogger tone of the article I linked 5 years ago on this page. I enjoyed reading it again.

That really was an unforgettable run even for someone who doesn’t give a shit about the Mavs at all.

Doc Rivers moved up in my book. Called timeout at end of game to honor Dirk
