Back in my hey day, I used to listen to alot of house music and was into the mix tapes. These were my favorites:

Bad Boy Bill
Too Kool Chris
DJ Caffeine
Bobby D
DJ Irene
DJ Marksy
Tim Spinnin Shomer

This music would really get me amped before my basketball games. You don't really hear the house/acid house music anymore. Did any of you guys listen to this? Are there any new DJ's out there with some new styles? I'd love to get my hands on some trax if anybody has any and is willing to share.

I think I did. I had a hard time watching with that one guy doing 360's around the bike with the one-legged front to back kicks. What country was that in? It looked German. Some funny shit though.

(would Milt Rosenberg count?)

i'm asking about acid house... in fact there's this one cylob mix that is amazing, he starts mixing acid records with booty house and it's fucking excellent... my friend has it on his phone and has been like 4-5 months worth of lazy getting it off of there proper. it's not like i don't have an unlimited space ftp with a http mirror that could make this ridiculously simple, no, never.

this guy is squarepusher's brother, ceephax. he should be out here in july for the first time in america, and even tho he's more of a live PA type set, this guy does some acid. clicking on his latest LP cover will take you to a proper music video for his track sidney's sizzler, which is an excellent oldschool-vibe video and i love the song.

i have a friend who loves him some acid... i've gotten to play around with a proper 303... the shit's archaic to program, oh let me tell you.

Thanks for the honest post Cin, I listened to it but it is too sythy. It reminded me of playing by casio syntesizer I had when I was 12. Is it me or is the European culture still living in the 80's?

This is a blast from the past

and one 12" i've got that is purportedly the first acid record ever, per the guy who owns kstarke @ division/western, sleezy d's "i've lost control" space remix >> watch?v=1mK1KqXdrss

oh yeah, i forgot to actually mention my favorite djs.

andy c is the king of drum and bass DJs. the guy's proper. i've also seen adam F live and he's quite good, and i'd like dj hype a whole lot if he didn't always flood his sets with that "hypehypehypehypehypehype" sound effect.

i saw dj q-bert at a "rave" circa 96-98... i heard he got paid $5000 to do 30 mins of work, and those 30 minutes were fucking impressive. a couple of other tru playaz drum and bass heads, zinc and pascal, were there too.

even tho they're technically not amazing djs, i'm always down when ed rush and optical are in town.

and believe it or not, autechre are phenomenal DJs when they play other people's music... i'll have to putter around the archives but i'll toss up some of their dj sets.. they're really eclectic and "quite good" -- rob brown used to mix oldschool hiphop, i've heard them do str8up techno, and i've heard them do sets that will take you from krs one to captain beefheart to old electro in a 23 minute span. i'll get some up for you, ern, as i figure you might like that... i can't say it'll have that cheesy oldschool b-96 "euro" feel to it tho... i can't say i was ever big into the palindrome scene... i was too busy going off to see aphex twin, industrial, and punk rock shows back in the mid-late 90s.

I'll check them out. I don't know why but I am getting an itch to listen to some good old skool house/hard house/acid house/ music. Maybe it's a mid-life crisis that I think I am starting to fall into.

http://dmxkrew.blogspot.com

he has a podcast series where he plays a bunch of records from all kinds of eras and talks about them... this guy is captain electro, he's had his own record label for a minute (it was breakin' records, but now i think it's something else?) and he's had releases on rephlex, warp, and others too.

i've actually bullshitted with ed dmx on myspace some years back and he used to take the time to make thoughtful replies to my dumbass thoughts. this man loves his music... a snob, purist, collecter, whatever you want to call him. good dude too, as he ended up spinning at a friend of a friend's loft circa 06. theeee genuine article, he knows his shit, and talks about it in that podcast series... i think he's up to 23 of them right now, and i know the early ones are about really early 80s / foundation-of-electro shit. maybe that'll work for you, ern, although it isn't proper DJ wares.

I heard a "Farmerism" the other day and totally thought of this mult... It was Friday night, against the Dbacks.. and Farmer says something like "DJ, why they have a cat as their mascot is beyond me..." and DJ says "Well, the old place was called the BOB (Bank One Ballpark but he didn't say that) and his name is D. Baxter... so..." and Farmer was silent for like 10 seconds then "That's a 2-1 pitch to AJ, and he grounds out, that's the inning." Nothing about what he was talking about. Hilarious.
