I would think a surgery for a 3 year old is complicated. You're not fully developed and it's tougher to recover. Don't make it out that I'm rooting for 3-year-olds to have surgery. Don't make this out that I'm rooting for anybody to die. Don't make it out that I'm making fun of people with any disease. Nobody is forcing you to read anything.

You can take this wherever you want. My initial comments weren't about people having a disease. Nor was it about making fun of them. You know that. Everybody here knows what I said.

There are literally tens of people that listen to the Score ONLY because of Larry. They call into his show and declare it. He was talking to them.

So you guys are saying Larry has a heigtened sense of how important he is?

You dont say.

Anyway, how do you not like Curious Hair? Best poster this side of StoneRoses.

Did Laurence (thats his name folks! /SHARK doing Mcneil) call himself a hero? No

He doesnt have to....when its so obvious

Funny that Dr Ken, Larry's self described number one fan, hasnt shown up.

Shake that

Ya know, I would think most people with Crohn's disease would have been offended by what Larry did too. Using the disease to promote himself and tell us how woderful he is. Yeah, I was offended by that. You'll never change my mind about that. I thought it was disgusting and deplorable.

He turned it into the "Streets of the South Side" for dramatic purposes just to say "I'm great, you're lucky to have me back"....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQYGVzzIq7g

I think we're all clear as to how often I listen to LoHo (c. 15 minutes a year). I think we're all clear as to what a pud I think he acts like on the air.

I think it should also be clear to everyone, even the dimmest amongst us, that if Larry went through some serious stuff like that and it helps him mentally heal to get on the radio and say whatever he said (no, I'm not going to go listen to it, obviously), then who the hell is any of us to tell him "no, that's wrong; no, that's inappropriate".

Empathy is an illusion folks. You can feel sorry, you can say you relate, you can say you understand, but nobody has any real grasp on what other people go through except for their own shit - any representation to the contrary is a crock of shit.

Sorry excuses like "it happens to people everyday" doesn't make someone's struggles any easier - if anything, it makes it more difficult because there's no reason to not infer that their own self-worth is being challenged, let alone their ability to deal with shit.

LoHo has been on the air for some time, and will be for some time in the future. If you wanna hassle his ass, do it about something related to his show or his broadcasting; don't be a complete fucktard because the poor bastard seems to have escaped a potentially personally devastating problem with little to possibly no real ramifications going forward.

How that's not evident to every swinging dick on this board really is beyond me; why this surprises me is a cross I have to bear on my own. Christ, I'm the fucking king of insensitivity yet some of this thread is just way beyond the pale.

In closing, let the record show this diatribe was written with a xanax and a valium in my system. Not that they're really doing anything, but I'm sure it subdued my disgust and ire to some degree, but not enough to let this abject, unadulterated stupidity pass by without commenting.

Spot on DT. 100% correct. Nice job.

This notion, suggested by some, that Larry is trying to spread the word of chrohn's and reach out to people is bullshit. Spread the word? People know if they have it. Sounds heroic and nice to say, but it means nothing. People with chrohn's don't need Larry, they need a doctor. From what I understand, the treatment steps are pretty standard and simple. Proper diet, medication and eventually a surgery or two. Anybody can get that info from a doc or the internet.

This is a sports radio show with a male audience. Not the Oprah show. Nobody with this problem is gonna reach out to Larry. Nor does Larry really want them to. Don't fall for that. He says it at the time cuz it's the thing to say.

You people who suggested this remind me of the sweet old lady that sees nothing but good. I just had to play Jack to respond to all of you.

Did you major in revisionist history? I made sure to bring up the point -- in my post -- that I normally break bad on Laurence. Guess you must have missed that.

SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. you are stupid. accept that and live accordingly (meaning alone. isolated. dont kill yourself, just sit in a room and stare at the wall. forever.)

thats besides the point. the fact is beardown has shown his true colors. actually he invented a new color- it now goes red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, violet, and retard.

he has shown that he has the intelligence of puke in the bottom of a portable toilet. if he wasnt so busy choking on horse cock maybe he would have time to learn about the shit he posts. i bet he has a tatoo on his lower back; it was before his mother told him he would NOT be growing boobs like she always hoped. if i were beardown, i would move to the parts of haiti that dont have internet. im just sayin.

ps- beardont, like i was saying. dont even respond. be smart. stay the fuck away.

Give me a break. Holmes isn't Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern or a (vintage era) Steve Dahl. He is a third-rate bit player on a second-rate sports station. The vast majority of his audience listens because they like sports talk, not him; Holmes's show is not personality-driven because he has no personality. By virtue of his broadcasting style, he is attempting to align himself with some of the country's broadcasting giants. But even a notorious narcissist like Keith Olbermann wouldn't pull the crap Holmes tries on a regular basis. A lot of people with significantly greater stature than he will ever enjoy regularly experience enormous tragedies and triumphs in their lives. But they don't feel compelled to report on them in excruciating detail during their programs because they are not deluded enough to conflate the narrator with the narrative, the messenger with the message, or the host with his subject matter. In the final analysis, Holmes' plight is similar to that of a pulp writer who has mistaken himself for James Joyce. His limited appeal lies exclusively in his ability to engage generic conventions, not in his desire to "transcend" them. His hubris lies in the belief that his "special" brand of broadcasting does not need to adhere to those conventions.

Larry defines himself entirely by his workplace and his workplace acquaintances. I don't know if it's still up on the site, but his bio used to say something like "I consider myself to be the most recent member of the Score's first generation" or some shit. Oh, do you? The very first sentence he writes about himself is that he places himself among Mike North, Terry Boers, and Dan McNeil because he started working at the Score when the station was at 820 out of the old Belmont Avenue studio. Okay. It went on to say that he produced for Grobber, Bernstein, and a million other namedrops. I don't know, it just rubbed me the wrong way. This, along with his "I was out clubbing with Lance" brand of Bears reporting, really captured the essence of SHAKE THAT.

Look, if you dont believe the people calling in and explicitly stating "Youre the best Laurence! You are the reason I listen to the Score" than I dont know what to tell you.

Yes, he's adopted the Stern Dahl style

You think he's bad and shouldnt even attempt it.
Fine.

Some people like it. Personally I like hearing about Laurence's world more than him talking about sports. I listen to be entertained and to laugh. Maybe thats weird for sports radio but whatever.

The segment was not even the least bit surprising to his fans and Ill bet they liked it for the most part.

If this is LoHo's way of dealing with his illness, God bless him. I think he needs some slack on this one.

I've got a question for some of you. Where were the threads of outrage for B&B about Ron Santo? Maybe I missed them.

B&B said of Santo, despite the fact that he helped raised mondy for JDRF, that, according to them, he wasn't the best person to do so. They said a lot of it was phony cuz it was his attempt to get into the HOF. Where was the "B&B hate kids with diabetes" threads and/or comments? Where were the "Leave Ronnie alone, it's his way of coping" comments? When B&B would make fun of Santo, where were the "He could have died in surgery, how dare you!!!" comments. Where were they?

I'll give you all a moment to think about this...

Thanks. I accept your apologies. I won't make any of you say "sorry".

actually, awhile back i was bombing his show with texts about how he needs to stop that "[caller] is on the score and wants to talk about [subject]" crap that wreeks of harper college type radio or something, and laurence actually texted back once saying that steve dahl does that, and he's pretty sure that steve dahl knows more about doing radio shows than i do, so he's going to stick with steve dahl.

by that little exchange, soiled undergarments notwithstanding, i came to realize that laurence holds steve dahl in the highest regard... cuz he's what laurence has always wanted to be... a little local ~B-list celebrity with occasional glimpses of transient national recognition for his excellence at the craft of radio. it's no surprise that laurence does this, cuz steve dahl lets laurence on his show/podcast, which i'm sure laurence sees as a big deal... and it works for both parties involved. laurence gets "the hookup" from someone who once was a bonafide "radio icon" in the city of chicago, an apprenticeship with the master if you will, and dahl gets someone with an actual gig on a 50k watt station to kiss his ass, blow him, and exalt him as a radio god whenever possible, which stimulates his surely-crumbling ego.

i saw bubba the love sponge up in milwaukee on friday night for a personal appearance for his "early enlisters" (my brother's hardcore into that post/sirius-satellite-radio stuff) and he said that he's working on getting steve dahl to do radioio.com shows.... ever heard of radioio.com? that's where it's at for dahl, so to say he's fallen would be putting it quite generously.

also, RPB, that line about how laurence has tens of listeners who tune into the score only for his show was my best LOL of the day... good one! =D

terry told a funny little story @ the cleo's remote back in december (you know, the one that doubled as a CSFMB meetup/party) about how he was at some funeral in the early-mid 90s and ron santo came up to him, tapped him on the shoulder, and said "you know, you're a real fucking piece of shit, you know that?" -- therefore, the whole terry/santo thing was probably personal in nature, because what i gleamed from terry saying that was that santo came up to him talking all the shit, so after that it was a free for all which they gladly obliged in. i dunno if danny bernstein has had any personal interactions with santo, but i'm sure he's more than willing to jump on terry's legitimate hate for the sake of "radio gold"

but yeah, that's ron santo for you. i could tell the tale again about how he hit on my friend's mother, but i think anyone with an ear to the ground knows that santo was a sanctimonious prick who did a masterful job of reinventing his whole gimmick/image over the last ~15 years. you gotta give him that.

Yeah. Just like I thought I'd get from CSFMB's "B&B" people.

It's the same with Score people. There thing is, "We'll piss on anybody" - for any reason, justified or not - but how dare you call us out for being scum of the earth."

I win.
