Who decides which uniform the Cubs will wear at any given game? (Not counting special throwback days.) I had always been under the impression that the starting pitcher made the choice, but I'm not sure. I really despise the blue shirts and think the Cubs should stick with the home pinstripes and the light gray road uniforms. How many other teams even have a third uniform they wear regularly?

Maybe I just like him better in pinstripes. :)

Other than the Yankees (and maybe the Dodgers?), everybody has an alternate top.

In my opinion, the uniforms worn last evening by the Chicago Cubs are disgraceful. They look like softball jerseys or tops one might wear while warming up for a game.

Call me old fashioned if you want to, but I prefer a road uniform to be gray, with the name of the city in bold, block letters across the chest. Think a beautiful gray top, with "NEW YORK" across the chest. Even the Red Sox know this, for crying out loud.

That is the way I roll, beyotch.

Brewers have the throwbacks they were on Friday nights at home.

I think they are referring to Major league teams, Hawg. :P

Starting pitcher has the choice. Home starting pitcher has the preference, in case teams have similar color schemes (like if the White Sox were playing the Twins in Minny and their starting pitcher wanted to use their Navy Blue tops)

Zambrano has always loved the Blue Tops.

Greg Maddux always preferred the traditional look.

Is this a MLB thing or just a Cub thing?

I think it's an MLB thing...I've heard similar from the Sox.

Buehle and Freddy both seemed to prefer the alternate black tops whenever they pitched for the Sox. Except for Opening Day and the playoffs.

For the longest time, regardless if the Cubs are home or away, I remember Carlos Zambrano sporting the blue alternate top. That seems to have changed this year at Wrigley...

That's the main reason i was curious. In the past it seemed as though he was always in blue, but this year he's been in the pinstripes a few times. I wonder if the decision was taken out of his hands or perhaps he just wanted to change things up.

From what I understand, the starting pitcher picks the jersey the team wears. Even though it's a warm & humid day outside, I wouldn't be shocked if the White Sox sport the black tops with Mark Buehrle on the mound. Those black jerseys, along with other jerseys around the majors now use a Cool Base, which you can buy at MLB.com/shop.

The team makes the final call. They usually extend the courtesy to allow starters to pitch in what they are comfortable in. But for some games such as ones on National TV and things like that they may choose the more traditional route to try to spark things like jersey sales. At least thats my understanding of it.

That explains why the Washington Nationals, the White Sox' Interleague opponent this weekend, sported a navy blue jersey top for a home game, I believe vs. the Phillies at Nationals Park on Memorial Day. The uniform top had the team logo, letters & numbers intertwined in red, white & blue.

Agreed. My Wife says the Cubs solid blue road jersey look like kids pajamas. Shes right.

I also think the Big Z alternate Jersey needs a change.
I think the home uni is great and should never change but the alternate and road uni could use a new look.
I'd love to see them work in the old school Cub holding the bat logs. I think I've owned about 5 of those hats.
The navy blue jersey are also not bad.

I like that the A's reintroduced the Yellow jerseys from the '70s.

McDonough got rid of the blue jersey in 2007, only for the team to bring it back after he left. I hate that jersey. Looks like a pajama top. If you're going to wear blue, wear the '84 blue. At least it had stripes and stuff on it, and the actual Cubs logo rather than that stupid bear logo.

I actually think the mid 80s Cubs jerseys are pretty sharp. As an alternate I agree they would be much preferable to the current ones

I saw that, Colonel, watching highlights of the A's game vs. the Mets last night in Interleague Play on MLB Network. CLASSIC!
