I mean, I just dont like Mike Quade very much.

So, from my point of view Im thinking Sandberg couldnt be worse right? I mean your future is a middle infielder right? Sandberg has some expertise there, I think.

Whatever. Quade has an annoying face and the nickname thing seriously pisses me off for some reason.

Im not officially saying fire Quade-ey, I know that no manager would be winning with this squad. I am pretty sure he is not the answer though.

Kind of.

There's really no way to know who the better choice would have been at this point.

The thing to remember about Sandberg was that he has only been coaching for 4 years or so.

Quade has been coaching for 30.

Also, if Sandberg failed, would the really meatball-y types be able to scream that he needs to be fired, and furthermore, could they handle it when he inevitably was?

Quade coaching in the minors for 30 years is not real impressive to me.
30 years of not making the show?

And the meatballs would need back to back bad years at least before turning on Sandberg.

Thats why I think the Bully went with Quade. He knew they were going to suck and that the fans certainly wouldnt blame good ol Ryno in his first year.

Thats why this pisses me off even more. I believe the bully is making moves for the good of his fat self over the team.

I still think that it's going to take the shitty Tribune contracts to run their course, and a change in baseball personnel before this team contends. The best thing the Cubs did for Sandberg was to not hire him. I see him being a successful manager starting on a team with a bunch of kids (Washington, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, even Tampa or Miami) instead of a bunch of over-the-hill bloated me-first veterans.

Good for Sandberg but that doesnt help the team.

Theyre in a special kind of sports hell with the combination of bad contracts, bad economy, bad attendance and ownership transfer.

Bad.

Hello....

I agree with Boyd in that this was a better deal for Sandberg. Quade is the post Lou sacrificial lamb.

I feel bad for Quade, he must be tearing his hair out trying to figure out ways to make this team better.

Sandberg would have brought some respect to the job, unlike Quade who claps his hands thinking that will change things. I can't see Sandberg putting up with the lack of hustle by some of the vets and for the lack of fundamentals. Quade can clap his hands as a 3rd base coach elsewhere. He has no business being a big league manager.

Sorry for the color avatar -lol!

This team is basically on pace to lose 99 games.
I doubt they'd lose less than 95 with a better manager. They're just terrible.

He's right though, Sandberg wouldn't have been worse. This is as bad really as it gets for a season.

Bern Stine says a lot of shit. He said Adam Dunn will hit his numbers.

I agree with an earlier post....having sandberg managing would shine a brighter light on hendry. That said, sandberg would make little difference with this mess.

The team still would have sucked. Sandberg would get old and frustrated trying to get some of the dead asses to work. I think the philosophy here was to not send the hero....the icon....the hall of famer in, but rather send in the village idiot to go down with the ship.

My thought was and is, "why ruin Sandberg?" Why give him managerial slot where he'll just be beaten into the ground? Its the same thought I had for Jay Cutler

And now that I think of it, Rex Grossman

Neckbeard managed not to get ruined.

Why would he get old and frustrated in one year?

We are expecting this to get better at some point right?

Building from the ground up building the team the way he wanted it.

He's not gonna take over a playoff ready team. This would have been a good move for him.

Fucking bully

The question is can Ricketts fire Hendry and then go claim to Sandberg he wanted him all along.

If I was Sandberg I would tell him to fuckoff and say "They you should have done it"

Ricketts is just getting in Deeper and deeper with Hendry everyday and if he ever pulls the trigger, he will have a ton of explaining to do.

So they don't hire Sanberg cause they don't want to ruin him and then he takes off?
Who cares if he gets ruined do they think that he will come back after being snubbed?
So lose a guy who bleeds cubby blue to save a Hendry? If thats the case Ricketts really is in over his head.

I had been screaming about hiring Sandberg for 2 years just like I was screaming about Girardi before then. Sandberg won at every level and many of you were fooled by a few meaningless games just like Hendry.

I think Quade won at every level too.

Apparently the whole league disagrees. Not like Sandberg was scooped up for another managerial position. Still sitting in the minors.

Oh, piss on Sandberg already ....

Jesus Christ .... he would have made NO material difference whatsoever this season, and then what? They gave it to Quade because he's expendable; then they can hire whoever they want out on the market.

Sandberg heads this team and they suck out loud this bad .... THEN they're gonna say no thanks, take a walk? Right; that would have been much kinder and career-friendly for Ryno.

While we're at it, Ryno also could have sucked it up; I don't recall anyone signing documents whereupon he had his claim to the "throne" set in stone. Yeah, it's a bitch when you get swerved for no apparent good reason .... I'm sure plenty of you fine folks have taken it in the ass for no good reason at work or in life, but I reckon most of you got over it. Any time people want to take him off the cross is fine with me .... we need the wood for better bats apparently. Give a shard of it to Colvin while you're at it.

Maybe he'll come back some day; if not, whooptie-shit. Just remember him the best way you can .... as being far superior to Joe Morgan.

this is a badly constructed team. a better manager may be able to put a red rose on a pile of shit but it's still a pile of shit.

I believe Sandberg has more, whats the word...gravitas, then Quade. Sandberg was a HOF player, where Quade never sniffed the major leagues. Would the players (like a Zambrano) have respected Sandberg more knowing Sandberg's history. I don't think the players really respect Quade, they maybe like him, but don't really fear him.

Would that have changed the dynamic of this team? Maybe not, but I don't like the leadership on this team.

Granted there have been managers who never played major league ball who won World Series, but this Cub team needed strong leadership from the manager spot, since none of these players seem to have leadership traits.

Nothing matters until Hendry is gone and this organization is completely re-tooled from the front office to the field staff. They could go dig up Don Zimmer and throw a ball cap on him and sit him up on the bench and it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference while Hendry is still in power.

I'm pretty sure Zimmer is currently above ground.
