I think barring about 12 or 13 win stretch here to end the month, this season is just about a lost cause so might as well let him learn at the big league level. He's not the only one on this team thats done poorly so far. 2 of the other infielders, at least one outfielder, and his manager have all been shit for the most part all year.

.288 BA
21 HR
96 RBI
93 R
10 SB
.360 OBA
.477 SLG

Pretty good numbers for a 3B, and elite for a 2B or SS

As far as 2B, this would rank him below Utley (who is on a HOF clip, big finger to Jeff Kent), and comparable to the likes of Pedroia, Phillips, Zobrist (look it up), Kinsler, and Cano.

Just passing the eye test, I would have to agree he can be better than all these guys not named Chase.

Renteria? you got to be kidding RPB, get that weak shit outta here.

Renteria was a very good player for a long time.

World Series Champion (1997)
3x Silver Slugger Award winner (2000, 2002, 2003)
2x Gold Glove Award winner (2002, 2003)
5x All-Star selection (1998, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2006)

I just think he'll be a notch below superstar. Renteria is no Slouch.

I dont think you need to put "look it up" on Zobrist anymore. Guy was a monster last year.

Renteria was an insult!

After further review, I sugested Ryan Raburn in another topic. A decent 2b with a little pop, but not really All Star level. Somebody suggested I was drinking, FWIW :drunken:

A year later and the same things are being discussed.

Hey, but he isn't a bust, don't say that!

He's starting to hit again...Alright, it's only .214 starting the night, but Gordon Beckham did have an infield single & scored one of the 6 White Sox runs last night in their 6-2 Sox winner over the Orioles at the empty "Cell". I don't know if batting him second will ever quite materialize, but I'll say this. Call me a homer if you must, but I'll take Beckham over Starlin Castro defensively in a heartbeat.

Homer. It's ok though, Castro will be the better overall player and it won't even be close, SHARKBITE.

Starlin can't throw, RFDC. I'm not so sure he's long for shortstop on the Northside either...

If he didn't get sent to AAA last year, I can't see him going to AAA this year.

Weren't those based on his actual major league production at the time?

I thought you brought it up because of the over-hyped minor league prospect discussion.

My mistake.

I don't know if we ever expected Gordon Beckham to become as offensively productive as the Yankees' Robinson Cano, but from the right side of the plate. Right now, I'm not so sure Beckham's bat will ever be that productive. Defensively, Beckham's actually the #1 second baseman in the American League already and has committed ONLY 1 error. He did work awfully hard in the offseason after he hurt his wrist area after getting plunked by a pitch last August vs. the Indians at (Not So) Progressive Field in Cleveland. It looked like this was going to be a breakout season after Beckham smoked the ball in Spring Training, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

My mistake.

Over hyped prospect discussion is what it evolved to.

Beckham fits in nicely there.

A permanent MLB player is not a prospect.

Who is that?

You think Beckham is in the bigs for good?

Not so sure

And he was certainly a prospect when this thread was created and Keyser predicted an MVP and other compaired him to Hall of Famer Paul Molitor and scolded me for projecting him as low as Edgar Renteria

In that case you cant choose Patterson as an example of a bad prospect. He is still a MLB player so he must be good right?

The more I think about Beckham, the more I think the White Sox should've had him here at second base from Day 1. In hindsight, he was clearly better than Chris Getz & Jayson Nix 2 years ago when the job was open in Spring Training. The business of baseball prevented Beckham from breaking camp with the team.

To sidetrack a bit here, I think you're expectation of what a good big league hitter does is still mired in the Juice Era. I'm pretty sure there isn't one Yankee hitting over .300. I believe that speaks more to a changes in the game than as a reflection on particular players.

How many minor league games has Beckham played since this thread was started?

Patterson spent almost 3 full years in the minors. That's a prospect.

Yeah the bar has been lowered offensively, but .226 wouldnt be acceptable in any era.

I dont have to tell you how good of a player Edgar Renteria was and how Great of a player Molitor was.

Do you remove the prospect label with the first MLB at bat?

Point well taken, but Beckham's not the only player who suddenly can't hit...
