Bad week for guys with the last name of Charles I guess. Killed when the empty tour bus he was driving ( didnt know Metalllica was on tour )crashed on the interstate. Probably my all-time favorite upset was that NC State team beating Houston. This one kind of bums me out. :(

Lorenzo Charles? He's the former North Carolina State player who slammed home the winning basket in the 1983 NCAA Basketball Championship as time expired to beat Houston in Albuquerque, NM. Another guy no longer with us, head coach Jim Valvano, ran around the court right after the Wolfpack won it all...One of the most memorable moments in the history of the NCAA Tournament.

1983 NC State Roster = Wrestlemania XII roster

Someone check on Thurl Bailey. Keep Walter "Dinky" Proctor off the road.

Terry Gannon (Joliet Catholic) was wide open on the wing but the incredibly selfish Derek Whittenburg elected to shoot a 50 footer instead of passing to a guy who would have knocked that shot down 100 out of 100 times. Whittenburg will be forever grateful to Lorenzo Charles.

I think Wittenburg was more concerned about getting any kind of shot off after the near steal and the clock winding down than " selfishly" shooting that 50 footer. 100 times out of 100 times huh?

A near steal because Whittenburg couldn't catch a pass. But you're right, I should have said 1,000,000 out of a 1,000,000. Good call by you.
