I'm pretty sure Zimmer is currently above ground.

That is a meaningless detail.

He's made himself pretty scarce, no players have seen him lately and he hasnt been spotted around any clubhouse or been in any dugout in quite some time.

Wasn't Girardi also available? He clearly would have been preferable to both Qball and Ryno. I know several Yankee fans who would not have been sad to see Girardi go (which speaks more to their expectation level than it does his mangerial expertise).

Of course, he would have cost multiples of Q.

Sandberg had a history with the minor league talent so obvioulsy he would have been perfect for rebuilding this pile of shit. That and his status in the game would have meant immediate respect. With Quade last year, these guys where playing for next year and Hendry bought it. I also think he was intimidated by Sandberg and he prefered his lapdog in Quade. Hopefully McRicketts sees through this BS and fires both these morons after the season. I have a feeling however that Hendry is safe, if not Quade as well.

Things are indeed this bad.

this. it's flagrantly obvious that jim hendry is the problem with this team, not to mention himself. he looks like he's pretty much withered throughout his tenure as GM. i could go on ad infinitum with examples of how hendry has screwed the pooch, but out of respect for the pooch's ever-expanding asshole i'll just leave it at reiterating that i can't wait to see rodrigo lopez's next appearance.

between this and UMN's spiegel love, i'm ready to vote for him for poster of the year.

Truthfully, I think Sandberg would be making some of the same mistakes and maybe even a few that are more glaring. This team was bad from the get go and had no depth whatsoever. A couple of injuries proved that there really is nobody in the farm system that can help right now either. The ceiling for this team was .500, maybe 83 wins with a lot of luck and some guys really playing above their head. Quade probably will not get them there, and I don't think Sandberg would be doing a whole lot better at this point.

The biggest problem I would have if I were a Cubs fan is that there is no direction with this team. You don't know if they are going to totally rebuild or try to field a winner from here on out. The Sox at least told people they were 'All In', and so far they have failed. But at least you knew where they stood going into it.

They'll figure it out. It's only Year Two right now.

i thought quade was the worst possible choice..and he is..the players do not respect him and he is just a AAA manager in way over his head... hendry should have never been allowed to name the next manager...the smart move would have been to hire sandberg or brenly and get a real gm n here to start to clean up this mess up.

Quade has proven that he stinks, that is clear. Just please dont throw out the 'respect' angle. These are professional athletes, they dont have to respect a manager. They didnt respect Lou and he was a manager with a ring.

They didn't respect Lou because Lou checked out on the team.

Let me just clarify. Its not about THIS YEAR. Of course they were gonna be bad regardless this year.

Im seeing things out of Quade that make me think he is NOT the long term answer.

Sandberg may have been.

Perhaps, but could Sandberg have survived the next 2 years of bad baseball. I dont know if he would have been given a long enough leash. At least Quade is expendable.

I think his leash would be very long, being Ryno.

And coming into a tough situation.

or he could have been Trammell on the Tigers

We'll never know because the Bully would have none of that.

i think it is a must that the manager is respected by his players...lou was not respected because he was a dummy and made awful decisions and it was clear the game had passed him by along time ago...quade is not respected because he is bush league and everyone knows it...sandberg and brenly would be respected.

At worst Sandberg would have kept asses in the seats. Fans would have understood that Hendry is the problem. Now most fans want the GM and manager gone. Sandberg was groomed for the position and succeeded at every level. The natural progression was field manager. He made the most sense on a team that was going to be rebuilding. He had the fire and passion too. Passing up on 2 former Cubs just because they were former Cubs was stupid. Both Girardi and Sandberg wanted the Cubs job more than any other.

I don't think Ryne Sandberg would've been that much of an improvement over Mike Quade managing the Cubs. Even though Sandberg was pretty good down in the minors, I think before he could fill out a lineup card with his former team or any other team in Bud Selig's Major League Baseball, Ryne should've been hired as a coach on someone's staff first. As for Quade, I get the impression that he's in over his head and has no business filling out a lineup card.

ricketts is just a dumb little bitch...daddy they come every year win or lose blah blah...this is what i wanted to happen day 1 fire lou ...day 2 fire hendry and crane kenny...day 3 hire brenly or sandberg... aramis ramirez at 1st base and do not sign pena or wood or doug davis or lopez or the rest of these hasbeens.. i will not go to a game until hendry is fired and quade's ugly ass is gone..i have not gone to a game in 4 years or bought a shirt or hat..that is how you show the cubs the product blows.

it is meatball because if the guy who finished 2nd was anyone else we wouldn't be wondering if "Billy bob Thudpucker" would be a better manager.

And I've yet to hear a non meatball argument as to why he'd be better.

I wanted Brenly from the beginning.

I want the Cubs to bring Bob down from the booth and tell Quade to go up there AND JUMP!

First line: Non sentence

Second line: Calls out meatballs

Third line: Ye olde meatball thought: Wants announcer to manage

Fourth line: Its raining meatballs!!! Wants announcer to tell current manager to kill himself.
