DJ has been sent back down. Hopefully to AAA to replace to the legendary Bobby Scales who is fighting ham. Awful Mateo was brought up, but hopefully he has been returned as well because BARNEY is back today!!!! Byrd is soon to follow.

Ortiz was dealing tonight in a 4 inning effort. They might, and i can't believe I am saying this., be better off making the shark a starter again.

It's unbelievable. They've already signed a guy off the couch and traded for a major league washout to start games now they're about to callup another major league washout. Where are all the studs in this great minor league system they've been building?? What a joke.

There is no pitching. McNutt is the only realistic prospect and he is always being babied or hurt. There are some guys throwing up decent numbers in AA, but they are 22nd round draft picks who aren't really prospects. AAA is complete garbage. I may have to do some research on Daytona to see what they have. Simpson has been bad for Peoria

Robert Whitenack is probably the best high level starting pitcher. I have never heard of him before this year. Zach Rosscup who I think was in the Garza trade is doing well in Daytona. Thats it thought. They are all super young.

I am still firmly behind the idea of trading Marlon Byrd to the Tigers for AA starting LHP Casey Crosby.

I think Dolis is being molded into a reliever. He looks promising. They got some outfielder for Gorz. I think he is in Daytona accomplishing nothing and he isn't a spring chicken either to still be in only high A ball.

Edit: Michael Burgess is the player the Cubs got for Gorz. He is in Daytona hitting a robust .196. Has some power with 9 bombs and 40 something rbi, but .196 in A ball??

While checking the Daytona roster I noticed some nice stats from a 1b prospect I have never heard of. Justin Bour is batting around .300 with 17 bombs and 58 rbi. He was a 25th round pick out of George Mason in 09. Best year of his career so far. Never showed this kind of power last year.

Big shock Hendry got nothing for Gorz. That was a stupid trade motivated by a salary dump. He'd have been a solid #4 starter for years.

This Tim Wilken farm director doesn't seem to be paying dividends either. The whole organization is a disgrace.

Gorz sucks. He is better than Davis and Lopez, but still nothing more than an inning eating #5 at best.

The Cubs farm system has more talent in it now than they ever had over the last 20 years... just no pitching talent. I would expect to see Jackson, Flaherty, and LaMahieu as regulars in 2013.

I still don't understand why Marquez Smith sits and rots in Iowa and is not in the Cubs plans whatsoever. He has played well, they just keep overlooking him. They also need to find some positions for these guys. DJ, Flaherty and Barney are all usually play 2nd. I think Flaherty can go to the OF and DJ will be a utility player and Barney will hold down 2nd.

I think the next manager moves Castro to 3rd, Barney to SS, and DJ to 2nd. Flaherty, Jackson, and Sczyzyyzsyzryryr in the OF. Hopefully Fielder at 1b, and Castillo catching.

Hopefully they can trade every single veteran on this current team for pitching prospects.

Quade/Hendry have DeWitt so they don't need Smith. As to plethora of middle infielders, if they had a real GM, they'd make a good trade and acquire a need guy in return. But that's to logical for dumb fuck Hendry. He'd rather package 5 at once and hope the guy he gets is worth a shit.

That's why the organization has no depth and when injuries happen, they're fucked; i.e this year.

Shark take 3.

It appears that the Cubs have signed current Florida State WR Taiwan Easterling. Not sure if he is any good, but between Sczur, Shark and him they have a decent offense.

Cubs Sign Enrique Acosta
By Zach Links [July 2, 2011 at 12:57pm CST]
The Cubs have signed Dominican shortstop Enrique Acosta, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America. Acosta's signing bonus is said to be worth $1.1MM.

Acosta, at 6-foot-1 and 180-pounds, is considered to have one of the top bats this year in Latin America. It seems likely that the right-handed hitter will move from shortstop; possibly to a corner outfield spot or third base.

The new infrastructure is working! Let's hope this guy isn't a falling piece of concrete.

There's an old saying in baseball. Grow the arms and buy the bats. It looks like the Cubs are trying to grow the bats and buy the arms. That could become a very expensive way of doing business.

We'll see on the prospects you cite. Wilkens has a good rep but where's the results? He takes Hayden Simpson # 1 last year? WTF is that? And he blows!!

As to Gorz, he is a ML pitcher unlike some of these bums Hendry has brought in.

2-6 with a 4.6 era is nothing better than what hendry brought in.

wilkens has been on staff for three years, you cannot expect results in that time period.

Check your facts:

Wilkens has been with the Cubs since 12-20-05 and they have developed virtually no pitching to speak of in that time.

Gorz's ERA this season is 3.77, better than all Cubs starters going into Saturday's game.

But you also have (supposedly), a lot of position players who have/are being developed. So, they need to trade for pitching talent. They got Garza who is looking good, trade Byrd/Ramirez/Anyone else for pitching prospects and they will be fine.

"And they will be fine"? Wow. I didn't realize things were that easy on the North side. When do I order my World Series tickets?

I hope you're right but I have zero confidence in Hendry/Wilkens et al. They all need to go bye bye.

Its Casey Coleman time. Now every Cub starter from the season opening 5 man rotation has been on the DL.
