Do you mean "Fall of The Plastic Empire"? The Levity Ball is a track on that album. They're an extremely underrated band that should've gotten the chance to make it big. Very good live also.

shit, i pulled a boyd. yes, that's the one. i'm proud of my copy of the album because it was the independent release i bought after seeing them in a dive bar in delaware and meeting them. the lead singer liked my "crime pays" joe pesci shirt. i agree, they really do rock.

TM - great selections, especially "illinois" and "chutes too narrow". and i really dug "welcome interstate managers". fountains of wayne are quite underrated as well.

RPB - i mentioned "white blood cells" in my original post.

This was one of the last [rock] albums I enjoyed, but it misses the cut by a few years.

You could've bolded more than just that album.

I was gonna say something about his list too, but that wasn't the mood of the thread at the time.

I prefer my bands without gimmicks like wrestling masks.

There's an Urge Overkill joke in there somewhere.

Frankly I find it amusing when people take the time to bash others musical tastes. I was a classic rock snob through my freshman year of college. Over time I grew to appreciate to a lot of different musical styles and eras. Well thought-out critique & analysis on this board has led me to sample a number of bands I'd never been exposed to before. On the other hand, those who express utter disdain of any band (U2 sucks, Stones suck, ...etc) serve little purpose IMO.

I got nothing against anyone's tastes. I was just joking. I just thought it was weird that November attacked you for liking Amy Winehouse and just ignored everything else. I got nothing against Amy Winehouse. That album was huge for about a year straight and won a ton of awards. It's not my cup of tea, but it was on a ton of best of lists the year it was released.

their self-titled might be their BEST album. but i really liked WIM, especially with the eclectic range they had. except the country rock song, that was trite. but songs like "vally winter song", "all kinds of time", "no better place", "hackensack" and "supercollider", are all pretty damn awesome.

OK computer is probably my favorite off the top of my head. I'd have to think about it for a minute before getting a list

Elephant - the white stripes
Good news for people who like bad news- modest mouse
The unauthorized biography of reinhold Mesmer - Ben folds five
And my guilty favorite
The airborne toxic event - self titled

I wasn't sure if albums like Yoshimi would qualify. That should definitely be on there though

psy, "elephant" was mentioned. but good call on "yoshimi".

however, i was less than impressed with BFF's last album. i think after "whatever" it was just kind of a let down...but then, that was their best album. i didn't get into BF again until "rockin' the suburbs" in '01 which is his best effort besides "whatever and ever amen".

As derivative as it is, that's a good record. It certainly rocks enough. I don't think anyone could argue with Winehouse being a great rock and roll character.

Ghostface did a song with her. The music behind her weirdo voice and persona is pretty good.

Good call on Modest Mouse Pyschory Feldman

Ill never get the OK Computer love. Or the level of it. I like the album. I like The Bends better. Just dont see the greatness of OK,C.

Electioneering rocks pretty hard though

We're not discussing characters, we're discussing rock albums.

edit: I understand music is subjective, we don't need to get into that. I just strongly feel that Amy Winehouse's music does not fall under the category rock, even with as broad as it is.

I pray that this doesn't devolve into a dumb "What rock is" argument.

I believe that rocks are those things you find on the ground and throw at kids.

I don't think 1-2-3 Kid missed a move. The other guy (not sure who it is, Jarrett?) was probably going to do a springboard, and just missed the ropes completely.
