can someone here confirm that larry "loho" played college baseball? I thought he went to depaul, do they even have a baseball team? he mentioned playing against robert morris college at uic field. he was on the air today talking about what a great ballplayer he was and how he had letters from the braves and expos telling him to come try out. what ?!?!?!? is he bullshitting or is it true? someone out there knows the truth about how good a player he was or how bad he was.

I thought I heard he was on an intermural team as a catcher.

And then he played some baseball.

Yeah that was bad, sorry.

DePaul baseball is a CLUB sport. anyone can play. I got to play first base a few games, because they needed players! They are good players, but NONE OF THEM are playing at any level and getting paid for it, unless they are at DePaul for some other reason, like my buddy living at home for other reasons and wanting to still play baseball. He actually did get scholarship offers to go away and did. Just didnt do well enough to stay.

I played because my friend was on the team and he said they needed guys.

If you SIGN UP, most MLB teams will send you a letter telling you when OPEN TRYOUT DAY IS!

MAYBE, They personalized it to Larry, but for Larry to even think or mislead everyone that any team knew who he was, is 100% wrong.

My friend who then PLAYED at UIC and is in some of their recordbooks, only got 1 look by Colorado and this guy was really good!

There is a TON of hating going on in this thread. Maybe if you guys were good enough, you could have been invited to a few MLB tryouts as well...

Actually, no, that isn't a lot of "hating" on larry.

DePaul does not have a "varsity" baseball team. That is a fact. So it is only club. And baseball scouts don't check out club guys, they are watching the ones actually playing on legit teams.

Big Fan has it right. It's an attempt to mislead to build himself up to impress people and make himself feel important. Every MLB team has tryouts. Larry wrote a couple of teams, they wrote him back telling him when the tryouts were being held. Nothing more than that. Now for the rest of Larry's life he gets to tell people that he was invited to a MLB camp. Techically, not a lie. But technically, it's another thing that makes Larry an oily douchebag.

If he was that good, he'd have gotten a baseball scholarship to some college. Not play for some club team at DePaul. It's really that simple.

Wow, guys. Isin't it much more healthy to just be happy for the guy and leave it at that. Coveting the life of another dude isn't a good way to spend ones life. He's had to go through his tough times just like everyone else. He just happend to be insanely talented and a hell of a catcher. You can't really be mad at that...

Not mad, maybe he can still try out and get us a better evening radio show?

That the scouts wouldn't have heard about a very good catcher playing club baseball at DePaul. Relaying their thoughts to their bosses and getting Laurence legit invites to show what he could do on the major league level. I think it's pretty obvious, but you guys are blinded by jealousy and rage at this point. I don't expect anything different...

So we all agree Laurence was stating the truth when saying he was invited to try out.

Good talk

You are right. There is so much rage in this thread. No, I don't think that word would get out that the best catcher to never get recruited to any college for the sport was at DePaul playing club.

Although there was that one time that a quarterback was signed in the NFL after an amazing flag football outing...

It's pretty cool that Larry made the transition to successful media member that so many other former star athletes struggle with. Tiki Barber should take note.

I can see why you're skeptical, CSA. But facts are facts. In the end, admitting you were wrong was probably the best thing you could have done...

Like it or not, you are a fan of Laurence's show. You listen as much or more than I do. You create almost as many Laurence Holmes related posts as Dr. Ken, RPB, Sini and myself combined...

By the looks of the White Sox section, Bigfan is a huge fan of the south-siders also.

That's what I would call it. I'm not a Cubs hater or anything, but naturally I don't watch a lot of their games because I'm not a fan. Just sayin...

So, Laurence turned down the big money to play for the Braves to take a 250k contract for sports radio?

Did he ever explain why?

Just like Tiki Barber, being an athlete did not define him.
