This team will not be ready to win next year so look into trading him.

I have heard many of the "experts' tel me about how closers dont bring much. As a matter of record I agree, but that's because most of the time the team that is in the playoff run has a closer! That's why they are good! Thus they don't NEED the closer.

Phillie can use a closer!

Maybe we get Sandberg back too!

Some of us have been saying this for months. I call copyright infringement on my Marmol to the Phillies trade proposal.

I believe I called for trading Marmol two years ago. I can't remember what I had for dinner, though.

They should have traded most of these guys in the off season when their value was high. Hendry has an uncanny ability to either kill a guys trade value (Sosa) or trade a guy after he has absolutely no value (Pie)

Total credit given, but I do know historically closer deals dont bring that much

Yeah BF, many of us have been saying trade his ass for weeks. If it's mechanics, and Riggins is clueless, then maybe another team will take the chance. If he is on the verge of needing Tommy John, then Hendry better move quick. Which he won't of course.

Just a disgraceful organization top to bottom. They need a nice sweep in Pitts to close out the pre All Star Break to maybe wake up Bison Boy Ricketts.

Most of their prospects thought are High A at best right now. They are in a win now mode with the age on that big league roster. I would package Marmol and 1 other piece depending on what they need...be it byrd or marshall or even aram if he waives the incentives for next year. They have a stud 1b prospect and some good pitching prospects but the fact that they are all still in the low levels of the minors and that the phillies need to win now make this doable.

Hendry won't do shit. Makes to much sense.

Hendry is the last fucking guy to admit failure.....he will only do it when it has absolutely gone down the toilet....like after the Milton Bradley fiasco and like it's going to be at the end of this year.

Ricketts better get his head out of his ass.

He needs to go during the break. Ricketts doesn't need to have a "baseball guy" when that baseball guy doesn't know shit.

To bad they rallied in Washington. Back to back sweeps would have been embarrassing and that is exactly what this franchise is - a fucking embarrassment.

If Ricketts had balls, he'd axe Kenney, Hendry, Quade and the entire coaching staff over the break.

But he doesn't - and he won't.

Okay baseball gurus .... what the hell do you expect to REALISTICALLY get in return for him? Or is this just a bunch of goofballs wanting to trade him just for the sake of trading him, confusing activity with accomplishment as it were?

I want Jonathan Singleton from the Phillies. He is in High A with pedestrian stats...but is super young with lots of upside. He also plays 1b!!! Throw in another Cub....then throw in a pitcher. I would give them Aram (pending the waive of his option) as well and get Biddle too. That should put them in the drivers seat for a ring and will give the Cubs to really good and really young prospects.

It's alot to give up for the Phils....but they are in a position where they need to give to get. If this deal is actually possible and Hendry balks at it then so fucking help me......

LOL - I like Keppinger as a reserve. He rakes against lefties and plays SS. I get your point though.

Hang on to him. Honestly, at this point I wouldnt trade anyone unless they have a big contract and someone is willing to pick up the money for you.

He is a strikeout pitcher. Playoff teams crave that in the relief role. Get a team desperate enough such as philly and they will give up some legit stuff for him......but like i said a long time ago....hopefully San Diego doesn't beat the cubs to the deal.

He is a strikeout pitcher. No denying that. He is the most heart-attack inducing strikeout pitcher I have ever seen.

I am old enough to remember mitch williams. I was only 10 or so but I clearly remember load em up with walks and then strike out the side. Not a fan of that shit. Not at all.

Not only are the Phillies interested in acquiring a closer but they also are interested in a legit 4th outfielder who can play all 3 positions. Marmol and Byrd for Singleton....lets go Hendry. Might get another low end guy or 2 off their 40 man as they would have to clear 2 spots. Probably someone like Ben Francisco or Mayberry and a crap pitcher that they would DFA to clear the roster spots anyways.

Ive flipped on this. I was in the "trade Marmol" boat since the end of 09.

He still hasnt broken down. He is still nearly unhittable. Yeah, he loses the strike zone sometimes. But for a closer thats better than getting hit.

I think he may be that rare closer who can close for one team for a long time.

Keep him.

Won't he command a massive new contract before or at the time this team is ready to compete? He is still in his arbitration years I think, but not for much longer.
