Not sure I call him smug, without reading it I assume he is talking about what a great job he did for years before they sucked.

I would love to ask him while I understand his accomplishment of opening a checkbook, why didnt the system produce anyone during that ten year period?

I then need to still know why he signed Bradley with the no outs? What did he see? STEAK DINNER BOOM?
