"Pay that man his money. He beat me...straight up."

I love that movie. My wife and I have watched it so many times that we randomly break into Teddy KGB's voice during normal conversation.

One of my favorite aspects of the film is its narrative style--the way Mike McD continually cites aphorism's from renowned poker players like he's making reference to legal precedents in a court case. This technique helps define his work as methodical and professional in contrast to the reckless, scorched earth approach to gambling favored by Worm.

I'll just mention a few scenes that as Dr Ken put it "I'll always stop to watch"...

From "Billy Jack" were the deputy sheriff has taken one of the girl students hostage....

Deputy: Now you drop that gun or I'll shoot her! [long pause] I'm not gonna ask you again.
Billy Jack: You won't have to.
Deputy: What?
Billy Jack: I said shoot her.
Deputy: [cocks revolver] You'd kill her? just like that?
Billy Jack: [shakes his head] You'll kill her.
[drops his rifle barrel level with the deputy's forehead]
Billy Jack: And then I'll kill you. Just like that. I've been itching to kill someone all day & it might as well be you.

and one for SlapShotEd...

Reggie Dunlop: You cheap sonofabitch. Those guys are retards.
McGrath: I got a good deal on those boys. Scout said they showed a lot of promise.
Reggie Dunlop: They brought their fuckin' TOYS with 'em.
McGrath: Id rather have em playin with their toys than playin with themselves
Reggie Dunlop: They're too dumb to play with themselves. Boy, every piece of garbage that comes into the league you gotta buy it.

Robert Duvall from "2nd Hand Lions"

I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!

The "I believe" speech from "Bull Durham"

Annie Savoy: What do you believe in, then?

Crash Davis: Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.[pause] Goodnight.

and finally one of my favorites from Tombstone is the whole Ed Bailey scene in the bar...

"Ed, what an ugly thing to say.

I abhor ugliness. Does this mean we're not friends anymore?

You know, Ed, if I thought you weren't my friend, I just don't think I could bear it."

I like the scene that followed. Lance, the drug dealer, watching TV when Vincent called. The following few minutes of interaction between Lance and his wife are unbelievable.

That film is pretty much memorable scene after memorable scene. A masterpiece.

Which reminds me: the 3rd room in "Four Rooms" (with Antonio Banderas). The end where the needle's in his leg, and the rooms on fire, the kid's smoking.. "Did they misbehave?" Priceless.

It is not a major or memorable scene but I have always loved the scene from The Godfather when Tom goes to meet the movie producer:

Producer: I don't care how many greaseball...

Tom: Actually sir, I am German-Irish

Producer: Well, my kraut-mic friend...

When characters are able to make such great and quick comebacks I usually think it is overwritten. People do not respond that quickly and that well in real life. In this case though, I could really see the characters saying these lines.

Thought of this one the other day...

Love this scene from Back to School. The look on Kinison's face after the girl's answer is priceless...

Speaking of Eddie Murphy, I have always enjoyed the scene in 48 Hours where he busts up the cowboy bar.

Good thread, thought I'd bump it. Some of my favorites in no particular order....

In Tombstone when Doc and Wyatt are going on their charge, and Doc is all messed up and Wyatt goes down in the creek to chase Curly Bill and Creek Johnson, I think, asked Doc..

"Short of bein dead, what the hell you doin this for anyway?"
"Wyatt Earp is my friend."
"Hell, I got lots of friends."
"I dont."

Any Rocky training sequences

The speech by the pond from Robin Williams in Goodwill Hunting

At the end of A Few Good Men..
Danny: "Harold, you dont need a patch on your arm to have honor."
Dawson: "Ten-hut! There's an officer on deck."

The end of Shawshank Redemption when Red is taking the bus going to see Andy and walks down the beach to meet him. Perfect ending to an awesome movie.

Brad Pitt's "We're the middle children of history" speech in Fight Club

The diner scene between Pacino and De Niro in Heat

The Forrest Gump scene at the end where Gump is at Jenny's grave

The scene in Ali where Ali is at the inquiry and says "This is not a courtroom and I do not have to sit here and answer your questions!" and then snaps at the reports "You my enemy!"

The scene in Troy where the Myrmidans sail ahead of the rest of the army and take the beach of Troy. Also the scene where Priam comes to Achilles in the middle of the night to ask for his son's body back, and Pitt goes outside the tent and cries when looking at the body, and says "You're a far better King than the one leading this army." to Priam as he leaves with the body and Prisaes.

Too many scenes from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to single out one

Both of these are favorites of mine, but I would also add the scene in a few good men with "You can't handle the truth." That is a classic.

How about "Swimming with Sharks"?

The "Blue=Equal...Pink=Sweet & Low" scene between Kevin Spacey & Frank Whaley's characters is by far my favorite. It's a scene that makes me squirm everytime I see it. I think we've all experienced that degree of humiliation at some point in our life.

This probably was already posted, but I am too lazy to read and see, the last scene in The Unforgiven.

You just shot an unarmed man.
Well. he should have armed himself, if he was going to decorate his saloon with my friend.

i still remember seeing that in the theatre--and though i enjoyed it, i didn't fully appreciate it until i watched it again as i got older.

definitely a great film, arguably the best costner film effort ever put out.
