Veteran on-air radio personality Steve Dahl is staying in cyberspace. Eschewing traditional broadcasting, Dahl announced plans Monday to turn his daily podcast in a subscription-based service.

Beginning Aug. 1, downloading the podcasts will cost $9.95 per month. Dahl revealed his plans in a noontime Twitter announcement to his 13,000-plus followers.

Dahl, whose contract with CBS expired last week, has received about $1 million annually to stay off the air since being ousted from WJMK-FM in 2008. He began podcasting from his basement in September 2009, producing some 7.5 million downloads of his daily 90-minute show, according to his spokeswoman.

Dahl's 30-year broadcasting career includes trailblazing tenures at WLUP-FM, WLS-AM & FM and WCKG-FM, and the infamous 1979 Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park, which incited an on-field riot and forced the White Sox to forfeit a baseball game.

Yeah it's kind of a shit move on Dahl's part, IMO. While I can't blame him, it's kind of like he's extorting the people who actually DO listen to him... it's like "hey, you still listen to me? put your money where your mouth is"

I mean, make the $$$$ if you can make it, but the only people you're turning the screws on are your hardcore fans.

I would not pay for any podcast of anyone, wouldn't even think about it.

I've never listened to any radio show podcast.

That sloth has made enough money talking about his family,Janet,electronic doo-dads and last but not least his own genius (in his mind). This guy stayed on way beyond his relevancy.

Plus it seems to me that there would be no overhead for something like this. You really have no expenses to produce this. You do it from your house and you serve as your own producer.

by the way, how are his son's entertainment careers going? i thought one of his kids was on wckg with his own show until the station changed formats. he should be on in some major market by now
