What does everyone think?

I like him he has had some growing pains but I see a lot of potential and he's been more good than bad.

And it helps he has Pat Hughes with him.

I'd rather listen to dead air.

Bad. Boring. Really bad trying to hear them force some chemistry.

I was looking forward to listening when I heard Moreland was hired. He's pretty cheesy so far. Better than Santo but that's not saying much.

A little too much Dave Otto for me. He might develop as Pat Hughes is about as good as it gets.

I was a Moreland supporter & was glad that he got the job. However, after listening to him thus far this season, he is bad. Too Tim McCarvery.

IMO...he doesn't bring much to the broadcast. Anything is better than Santo though.

Should have brought in Larry Bowa to either manage or announce.

I really had my hopes up for Moreland as a preferable alternative to six months of Some Kind Of Adjective, but I'm not sure he's all that preferable. His (likely contractual) insistence on calling the fifth while Judd does color is as baffling as it is self-serving, and a poor allocation of resources. The best I can say about his pxp is that he's not Jeff Brantley. Pick up WLW on a clear summer's night and prepare to think you're amazingly DXing the low-power home of the minor-league Central Mississippi Cletuses or something. God, damn.

Also, I'm not sure how much I like a southern voice calling Cubs games. Southerners have gone on to be great northern broadcasters, of course; Mel Allen and Ernie Harwell come to mind immediately. Keith Moreland is neither Mel Allen nor Ernie Harwell, of course, and what may be a curious novelty to New Yorkers or Detroiters is just jarring to provincial old Chicagoland. Now, I'm not necessarily saying that Murph should do color for Cubs games (though I have gone on the record saying they should do that, and I halfway stand by it!) but I think my quintessentially midwestern baseball team ought to produce a quintessentially midwestern broadcast. If they want to do "folksy and homespun," as Bernstein likes to say to deride Pat Hughes, I would prefer a non-Texan.

Ultimately, Moreland is probably a stopgap for Kerry Wood (uh oh, another Texan!) or someone else, and Pat Hughes remains one of the best baseball broadcasters in the country, so Cubs broadcasts are good enough, and about as good as they can be with such a shitpile on the field. Go figure that this is the year to break in a new color man. Even the stiffest Santo detractors here (Sox asswipes excluded) have to concede that this lost cause of a season would've been the perfect time to just listen to Pat and Ron bullshitting about malfunctioning soft-serves and 1960s baseball rather than have to play this shit straight with a real analyst.

Hey Zonk his name is Starlin not Starling. If Harry would have done that it would have been funny. From you it is just annoying. Knock it off.

He would be a better manager. Santo's corpse would be a better manager though.

Moreland seems like a great guy and knows his sports but his ability to talk got in the way.
