About a month ago, B&B were discussing Darwin Barney.
I don't think Barney will ever be a Sandberg, Joe Morgan or Robbie Alomar.
I do think he will be like a Glenn Beckert.
Barney is a smart hitter, good fielder, good base runner.
He is a baseball player, something very rare at Wrigley Field.
That said, Boers was proclaiming that Barney would end the season with a .230/.240 batting average at best.
At the time, Barney would have had to bat .195 for the rest of the season to make the .240 come true.
Right now, Barney has to bat .167 the rest of the way to make the .240 come true and .131 to make .230 come true.
I don't think that Barney is a .300 hitter, but Boers' prediction is totally asinine.
I bet we will never hear him admit he made a mistake.

Boers admits when he is wrong about something like that. He must have just been predicting the guy would get figured out by major league pitchers as is common with rookies. Not a big issue in my opinion.

With Boers, I don't care for his, "my guy said...." after the event happens.

Saying a rookie will bat about .230, .240 is just a statement when you really don't know about a guy.

This station needs to have a better Roto league on who knows his shit. The roto guys are the ones who make real predictions based on the eye test combined with tests. Of course they are not always right, but they don't generalize all the time.

That may be, but you've watched enough baseball over the years that you've seen guys who remind you of other guys. He might act like he doesn't give a shit, but Terry is probably the biggest baseball fan on the Score (and a big Cub fan too). He knows that he hasn't often seen a guy who nobody ever thought anything about suddenly appear at age 25 and be a really good hitter. It just doesn't happen much. So he's probably pretty safe in what he said. Once in awhile though, a guy shows up for whom you can't think of any comparison. Jose Bautista comes to mind right now.

Barney was always a solid hitter thru the system.

Jose Bautista is a power hitting version of Melvin Mora.

But there are all kinds of guys like that. He was never considered a premium prospect. Hey, anything is possible. If I had to bet, I'd say he won't have much of a career.



Yeah, if Mora suddenly hit 50 homers and 1.000 OPS after ten years of mediocrity.

No way. He claims to be a Tampa Bay fan, but a lot of Cub fans have picked up another team somewhere along the line. You can hear the love in his voice when he waxes on about the Cubs. Just like Mike North could walk around Park Ridge in a full Sox uniform 24/7 and he couldn't convince me he isn't a Cub fans. His voice gets a tone like he's discussing a lover when he talks about the Cubs. It doesn't sound that way when he discusses the Sox. Same thing with Terry.

Is there anyone at the White Sox flagship, which was previously merely a station that was in the tank for the Sox all the time, that you believe to be a Sox fan? Apparently Bernstein agonizing over every out the Sox make on Twitter when not remarking on how hot his wife looks in a Sox shirt hasn't convinced you. Mac used to be a Cubs fan, so he's not real either. Apparently North was faking it too.

he reminds me of a ryan theriot with a better glove. a small scrappy young energetic guy that came out of nowhere played hard and hit fairly well. cubs fans eat that up

Not totally out of nowhere. They were both very good college players and I believe they both won national championships with their respective teams. They just didn't have any wow factor coming into pro ball....just solid players.

They may be similar players offensively but Barney is a far superior defensive player and he won't make the boneheaded plays on the basepaths like Theriot does. I'd take Barney over Theriot anyday.

Barney can hit a big league heater too.
