Fuck off and die you greedy fucks that can't get your streaming right, or with a solid library of flicks.

78% price increase over the past 3 years.

I heard their costs went up an incredible amount. Is that true?

Yeah I think I read somewhere about that, but I'm not sure. I wish someone would have posted about this somewhere, sooner.

They will go up. Alot of their contracts with studios are set to expire at the end of this year, and they will most likely have to pay alot more as streaming has become much more popular.

When Netflix made their streaming deals with the studios back in 2008-2009, they were all made for a three-year period. The first wave of those partnerships expires later this year, and it's safe to say that Netflix will not be getting a sweetheart deal this time around. Studios like Starz want "pricing parity" in a new contract, which means Netflix will be paying what the pay-TV networks are charged to air the same titles. To put it in perspective, Netflix got the Starz streaming deal for $30 million. Epstein explains this was 1/20th of what someone like HBO pays. When this math is factored into all of the Netflix studio deals, it means the company is looking at paying over half a billion dollars more per year for the right to stream movies.

Agreed. Even if it were to go up to, say, $15-20 for just streaming only, the convenience of it is better than anything else.

That's the thing. Everyone is having the kneejerk reaction to the fact that the cost went up, but I'm guessing many of those people complaining will still pay the increased rates and will feel like they are still getting a good deal; just not as good as before.

This.

I'm reducing to streaming only, mostly because I don't need the dvd's, and I'm still willing to pay up to about 20 a month for just the stream...as long as the quality improves.

Thank you for validating my opinion. I feel much better knowing it has the IMU seal of approval. That is all I ever strive for.

This was typed calmly.

I already knew that my opinion was correct. Therefore, I feel better that you validated it.

It went from $8.99 for both DVD/streaming to $9.99 for both to $7.99 for each in September. If they streamed more or recent movies it might be worth keeping. Fuck 'em - they're fired on principle. They're streaming quality sucks too. I'd rather pay a buck at redbox / blockbuster express or get it right from direcTV.

I'm not happy about it at all. I don't care if the service was "underpriced" in the beginning.

I look at it like this: I was paying $10 a month for two products, or $5 each. Now, since I have downgraded to only streaming videos, my monthly bill is $7.99 for one product. If I want the other product - DVD rentals - I have to pay another $7.99 for something I was receiving anyway before the price increase.
