probably one of my least favorite songs from them, but I posted it cause I figured most of you wouldn't know any other songs they did. But, basically, they were fucking awesome. Saw them in concert several times, best being at the Metro. Vernon Reid is one of the alltime great rock guitarists.

And who could forget Corey Glover's performance along side Tom Cruise in Platoon. Not to mention his breakthrough in the classic ARMY recruitment commerical where he uttered the famous line, "are you gonna eat that pickle?"

This is from the US Festival and Dave's just a tad drunk. At about 2:00, a midget comes out with a bottle of Jack Daniels, and you get Roth's feelings on The Clash...

The reason that phony said that is because a reporter had been on tour with Van Halen and wrote that a roadie poured out the Jack and replaced it with iced tea for Roth to guzzle during the show.

I was in eighth grade in 1978 and my friends and I all loved the first Van Halen record. One of my friends had an older brother named Eddie who was in high school and he brought home Never Mind The Bollocks. We thought that shit was ridiculous noise and we made fun of dopey Eddie.

I slowly came around to realizing Eddie was right. I was playing in my first band when I read about the fake Jack Daniel's. I was angry and disappointed. Here I was trying to emulate my heroes and almost killing myself with alcohol poisoning every Saturday night and they were drinking fucking Lipton's? I started listening to Bollocks and that first Clash record. Suddenly shit like "DO YOU LIKE ROCK AND ROLL, MAN????" just seemed really fucking stupid. I was a disaffected teenager and Van Halen didn't speak to me or for me any longer.

I hear ya, Joe. DLR is a complete douche, but those first 6 VH albums still speak to me. I'm only a couple of years younger than you, but I still love me some VH...

Yeah, I'll still crank up "Everybody Wants Some" when it comes on The Drive.

Oh man, these guys were fun to watch live. Pretty solid musicians, so-so music.

I caught part of the show @ Metro after a Cubs game - the one against the D-Backs with the crazy ending and Steve McMichael getting tossed for promising to have "speaks" with the umpire.

I was pretty buzzed and ambled over and spouted some gibberish about having to see the "heavy metal homeboys." Dude smiled and let me right in. Good times.

Alex Van Halen had one of the best drum sounds of all time. He can play too. Not quite in the same category as Simon Phillips, Tommy Aldridge, Mike Portnoy, Tony Bozzio, Bill Bruford, Steve Smith, Billy Cobham, or Chad Wackerman, but great nonetheless.

When a guy says something like this, I know we're never going to find any common musical ground.

That's fine. We don't need to find common musical ground. You can have Charlie Watts & Ringo. I'm a big fan of progressive rock & jazz fusion, & Yes, Zappa, & Jean Luc Ponty are faves of mine.

Steve Smith and Simon Phillips are two of my drumming heroes. Dudes can do it all and are super-nice to boot.

What do you enjoy about prog rock and jazz fusion? Also, if you're such a big fan, shouldn't you know it's Terry Bozzio?

Many years ago I attended a Simon Phillips drum clinic & stood about 5 feet from him playing his kit. Holy shit...I wanted to throw in the sticks right there.

I have always been a fan of musical virtuosos. Guys who can play things that most others cant.
Having said that, I also love the Beatles & power pop from guys like Jason Falkner.

Good catch on Bozzio.

Paul Revere & The Raiders:
*Plenty of hits (Not your Stepping Stone & Louie,Louie were two they never got credit for)

* Been going since 1961

* Should be in the Rock HOF.

I saw them back in 2005 at The Metro. Only thing is that they've softened and have gotten a bit EMO for me, but they can still rock. I liked "Let Go", but for some reason I really liked "The Proximity Effect".

hey assholes, this thread isn't a poll where you can submit your choices. This thread is to acknowledge what is already a proven fact, that Living Color is the most underrated band of all time. the fact that 99% of you don't agree only proves my point.

So to summarize, go fuck yourselves.
