Well, with regards to his quotes...as they relate to the umpiring - after this series, many a manager would have said the same thing. If Quade's managerial performance invalidates his point...that is unfair. The umpires did a piss poor job this series - no matter how the Cubs played, or how Quade managed.

You missed the point. I was saying that for a guy who says he doesn't make excuses, he has had a shitload of excuses.
Never, ever, ever even THINK about blaming the umpires for a loss. That's just bad, I bitch about Ozzie or Lou or hawk when they do it too.

I'm pretty sure he meant that the umps cost him the game. "Not like with 2 out no one on situations...all were crucial and huge"

Just read between the lines dude.

Quade stated that a blown call can affect a game?

REVOLUTIONARY THOUGHT.

Ok. Nevermind dude. Take it easy.

You guys seriously need to get off of this guy's dick. We could have 5 Hall of Fame managers on the coaching staff and this team would still be 20 games under .500. He was frustrated with the umps this series, as we all should be. Over the last 2 games there were 4 blown calls alone...

ohh so the team blows?? and the manager has little to do with that?..then why did ya pick them to be in the divisional race? why did ya say i am clueless when i told ya they are going to suck and finish 4th place in the worst division in baseball and have the worst defense in the majors??...a manager who knows what he is doing could have this team 3-4 games under 500...this inept retard is only compounding the problem.. i have seen plenty of blown calls go for the cubs this season...you sound like hawk harrelson ..quit crying

a manager can have a huge impact on a team...i do not know where all these guys come up with the number 4 wins in a 162 game season the manager has a direct effect on.... just imigane ozzie guillen dropping dunn to the 7th or 8th spot and rios down int he order...that alone would have the sox 2-3 more wins...now if he went to santos earlier that is another 2-3 wins...a manager can compound a problem or fix it... look at jack mckeon marlins since he took over

Quade just managed the Cubs right out of their 4th run. Bottom of the 5th, cubs up 2, Castro on 2nd and Pena on 1st. They send castro, who gets CS at 3rd. Next hit goes into left.
If they don't need that 4th ruin fine, but with that runner in scoring position and a small lead I see that steal attempt at 3rd to be poorly thought out.
Maybe Castro did it on his own but I don't know. He's in his first full year, I doubt he's got a green light to steal 3rd.

I stand by my Blake Dewitt statements. I can't help he is not starting at 2B, I did not expect Barney to take most of the starts. Dewitt has had some huge pinch hits for the team though...as huge as a team 20 games under .500 can have anyways. His defense in LF is what it is, considering he isn't a LF...or even an outfielder of any kind.

DeWitt is a terrible defensive player at any position. He is no more than an average bat off the bench and a once every 2 weeks fill in.

I see him being better in the future than he is now. I see him being a dependable, but not great, 4 or 5.

Wells is on his way out as a major league pitcher. It hasn't helped that Riggins is his pitching coach as Riggins arguably is the worst pitching coach in all of major league baseball.

At what, waiting tables? He could not make a pimple on a pitchers ass. One year wonder is all he is. He makes Shawn Estes look like a hall of fame candidate.

Wells was a top 20 starter (by WAR) in the NL in both 2009 and 2010. It sounds crazy, but take it up with Fangraphs. I think it's reasonable to guess that he could be a useful piece in 2012, and that his performance in 2011 is largely related to the forearm injury.

In 2010, Wells was 8-14 with a 4.26 ERA and a WHIP of 1.40. If this was good enough for top 20 (in the NL?), then the pitching in the NL was truly heinous.

Or you can look at it this way -- in 2011, Wells is 1-3 with an ERA of 6.71 and a WHIP of 1.74 (absolutely horrific numbers in a year when pitching has been great league-wide). Yet his WAR is "only" -0.2?

I don't know how fangraphs can possibly defend these numbers.

Didn't want to start a new thread but Quade might NOT get disiplined for ripping the Umps:

Chicago Cubs manager Mike Quade spoke to Major League Baseball disciplinarian Joe Torre on Tuesday regarding his blunt comments about the umpiring crew after the Cubs' loss to Florida on Sunday.

Quade was irate with a call on a pickoff play at second that went again the Cubs. Replays showed Starlin Castro tagged the runner out well before he slid into the base. He was ruled safe.

"I talked to Joe today at length, and I'll let them take it from there," Quade said. "The one thing that's great about having Joe, He's handling that situation now, he's been on both sides of this, and he gives you an opportunity to explain. It's not just cut and dried. So we'll see. We had a long discussion, a good discussion."

Sources said that Quade is unlikely to receive any disciplinary action over the comments.

No one who had been managing for the last 20some years is going to drop the hammer on ump-bitching. Joe Torre as chief disciplinarian is probably like Ned Flanders as principal.
