He can go work at Best Buy like Ron Artest did when he ran out of money his rookie year.

I love how he said he can take out loans to help him with money, though he has been making over 700 grand a year. These athletes are hard to like sometimes.

I found that funny too. You mean he spent 700,000 of his salary each of his 4 years in the league. So he'll need a loan if he sits. That's probrally not true but how insulting is it that he makes that comment. If it is true then he's pathetic.

If he just kept 200k of his 4 year earnings that's more then enough to live on for a year. Even with his probable huge mortgage. That's probrally his only big expense. These athletes pay for their cars in full usually. Why the fuck pay interest on a loan?

He could become impregnated by Brian Urlacher and sue for paternity.

Coach, they cannot fine him as he is not under contract.

Can they franchise him next year? Make 'em sit for two?

From what I believe, they can franchise him year after year after year? If he sits out this year at least? Someone help me out?

I had the impression it was an option for 2 years. The first franchise year – they pay him according to the top 5 at his position. The second franchise year – they’d owe him top 5 money in the NFL.

I think you can franchise someone for 2 years and pay them the average of the top 5 salaries at their position. The 3rd year a player is franchised is when a team has to pay them top 5 of the NFL.

**edit
I don't know what happens if he chooses to sit out though. I think there is something about # of games he would have to play.

Spaulding is correct. Actually Larry Holmes has been saying they would owe him "average top 5 overall money" if they tagged him next year. The Bears beat reporter has been wrong. That's not until year 3 of tagging. They could do the same thing to him next year.

#1 on the list has to be kiss my ass. Fuck Briggs. At this point, I sincerely hope they do nothing just to spite him. Let the fucker sit out; use his 7 mildo elsewhere. Briggs is betting Angelo is much less of a redass than I am; I hope that gamble fucks him right in his ass.

It looks like it is 3 years.

Old agreement
No restriction on how many times a team could use franchise designation on a player.

New agreement.
Team can franchise a player three times, the last at a rate of pay earned by quarterbacks.

Am I being simple minded to suggest a three year contract that averages out the present value of being tagged three years in a row? Throw in a signing bonus and reduce the per year as necessary and maybe even get the Bears an additional year for the effort

No. You're not Dolphin. The Bears have the money to retain him but they have decisions coming up that might be more valuable positions. These guys come up in the next year or two.

Tommie Harris
Rex Grossman
Bernard Berrian
Nate Vasher
Peanut Tillman

You can only spend so much. As good as Briggs is, Jerry might be thinking that Briggs position is easier to fill. Especially in the Bears defense.

It's not about the money. He wants to be the leader of a team! He'd play for free as long as he was the number one linebacker on the team.

With some training, he could be the "lead" cashier at WalMart.

I never have a problem with them getting the money they deserve. Only when they are an unrestricted free agents however. Briggs is not. The Bears tagged him. That's allowed through the CBA.

He can try this ploy. It's 5 months before the season starts. It's just hard talk. I'm not really mad. He'll play once the season starts if Jerry can't find a deal to his liking. That's the bottom line.

I don't know Nas... He was offered 33M over 7 years last year. I'm not sure how that deal was structured and a year later prices have risen a considerable amount. I don't think many people could have forseen that and it was a fair deal at the time.

He can be pi$$ed off all he wants but the Bears had every right to franchise him - he shouldn't be mad at the organization. He is little more than an above average line backer and the Bears need to sign some players who are more valuable to the team next season.

He is acting like a turd.

See that's the point.

Ask Mosse if the Bears are cheap. He'd say they aren't and Carolina was cheap.

Ask Adewallye if the Bears are cheap. He'd say the Bears aren't and Miami was.

But then Miami signs Joey Porter. So now Miami spends and Pittsburg is cheap. Carolina picks up Keyshon Johnson so that shows they are willing to pay an aging receiver.

You pick and choose. Now the Bears picked wrongly with the two above guys. But I think you see my point.

If he wanted security he should have taken the 33MIL contract and asked for a larger signing bonus.
He gambled and "lost". Play for the 7MIL and STFU.

You're right Nas. Bottom line is he'll play becasue nobody turns down 7.2 million that you can never get back. Or the Bears get a really good trade. It's a no lose for the Bears. Briggs can try this shit. I have no problem.

I never understand why you guys get mad at the athlete for wanting more money.

I don't think that's the case at all. It's one thing to want more money, its another to go around telling everyone who'll listen that you'd rather eat shit than play for the Bears. For fuck's sake, they're coming off a SB season. Don't you think that, considering the situation, he could suck it up for one fucking year and get by on a measly 7 mildo?

I could see if this team went 8-8 last year.

I could see if they were franchising him a second time.

But christ, the guy just has to suck it up for one freaking year. It's pretty obvious that winning means nothing whatsoever to him. Like I said, fuck him. He has every right to do this? Well, I say the Bears have every right to let him, and every right to franchise him again next year. Two can play at that game, and if he wants to be a spiteful little bitch, I say let him reap what he sews.

If anything, the way he is handling this is driving his value down. Has another team contacted the Bears and made an offer? That coupled with the fact the Bears will probably part with him after this year maybe telling.

Yall are more reliable than death and taxes. I mean, for christ's sake, god knows my views are well known here, but I'm praying that one day, my usage of these terms will be taken metaphorically. ;)
