I have a question about how Directv's trying to get people to sign up and wonder if it's good for their existing customers.

If I hear it right, you sign up with Directv now and you get the Sunday Ticket for free, which I will say smart, get more people, but if your an existing customer, why should you have to pay if people are getting it for free. I know if you say some things, you can get a discount, but to me it's almost not fair to have to pay. I am sure they wouldn't let you cancel and sign up again just to get the free things.

If I am hearing it wrong, then no issue, but if that's what Directv is going with, may not be the best thing.

They're giving away something for free this year that won't even be happening. Smart marketing move.

I am sure when most people signed up they also got something free.

Yes, they may have gotten something free, but this is a little bigger than movie channels, those are like 12 bucks a month, this is about 250 dollars for the year.

$250 off for a year isn't that much more than the offers you can get otherwise. And knowing DTV, if you call and complain, they'll work with you.

Sunday ticket is a HUGE ripoff! I cancelled mine a few weeks ago. The only thing worth a shit is the redzone network and DTV won't let you buy the redzone unless you first purchase Sunday Ticket for $350. Then you are allowed to pay an extra $100 for Redzone. Every other provider lets you buy redzone without such restrictions, only DTV charges a $350 premium just for the privlege of getting Redzone.

Not sure if DTV is going to change that policy to allow consumers the option of getting Redzone seperately, but if they are giving new consumers Sunday tix for free that's a good sign that maybe they are finally devaluing Sunday tix and will start allowing customers to opt out of it when they get redzone.

When they gave away the Center Ice package, they increased their users by a grand total of three (3) households.

SHARK has Chiller, DIRECTV 257. That channel is not in HD, but because I have HD, I have HDNet, DIRECTV 306. Not everyone has HDNet.

yeah i saw that when i was over at my friend's house. small price to pay and probably most of the programming isn't worth seeing in HDTV but it's great fodder. and all the shows they play are from a time when HD didn't exist...

the Hub isn't in HD either, and i don't mind.

You're new here. You'll figure out how things work really fast. Here's a little tip for you, if you say something really stupid you will be ridiculed for it for a long time. It's just busting balls, don't take it too personally.

The "free" sunday ticket is a bullshit deal because you have to buy it for the second year at full price. No one I know pays full price for it.
