I am really looking forward to this. I grew up reading Marvel Comics and Captain America was my 2nd favorite comic (right behind Jim Sterankos Nick Fury, agent of SHIELD). The Trib critic has already given it 3.5 stars.

I have to admit this Superhero shit is nuts. I never dreamed it would dominate the movie theaters. That being said,Captain America looks good because it has a great origin story and it takes place during WW2. Something different at least.

I agree. I've been looking forward to this since I saw the first trailer.

Incidentally, SyFy is showing the crappy Captain America movies that were made before tonight.

I've had Thor sitting on my computer since it was in the theaters .... and still I haven't watched it .... am I just better off reading the story on Wikipedia and deleting the thing (like I've thought on a number of occasions)?

Z...Thor entertained me, but it wasn't good. I just don't subscribe to what people that take their films too seriously tell me I should like

Hell, I liked all three Transformers movies.

I think I will head out and see this at a matinee price. Not sure it will be this weekend
but since I don't know that much about Captain America and this is kind of the first in
an upcoming series of super hero movies I think it will be worth the price of admission.

I'll check it out. I was more of a sci-fi guy than a comic book superhero guy. Granted, these superhero movies can be good... it's just that they are having a harder and harder time being original. Let's be honest, the only reason Iron Man wasn't panned was Robert Downey Jr. He's the Johnny Depp for bad pirate movies. Batman seems to be the outlier. They have done something special with that new iteration of that series.

5 stars out of 4-I liked it that much. I don't want to reveal too much but I will say the story, the editing and the acting (except maybe Evans could have emoted more emotion, but other wise he did a fine job) was all spot on. Everyone has their own tastes, but I plan on seeing it again, Also,it has one of the most unique endings you will find in this type of movie.

Yes, and the character was created during WW2. One of the co-creators, Joe Simon, is still with us in his 90s. Jack Kirby regrettably isn't

Chris Evans was probably freaking out a little before the release. A lot of fanboys weren't happy that he played the Human Torch and now was playing Captain America.

The bombing of The Green Lantern probably had all comic book movie execs on edge. Why didn't any fanboys get pissed that Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool prior to The Green Lantern?

By all reviews, this is a solid flick.

Because we're a crazy bunch who need to be upset about everything.

I actually liked Green Lantern.

this is really no more than a kid's movie. what's kind of shocking is how much violence there is for something that basically caters to the mentality of an 8 year old. the dialog is bad, the script is bad, everything is simpering and predictable and except for a few smiles from tommy lee jones and chris evans, the film is just bland action. it's also extremely politically correct, with Captain America's Band of Merry Men...

hugo weaving was wasted here. this villain is paper thin. the whole movie felt like a 1950's "commander cody" reel, and i guess if i were a kid munching popcorn and being wide-eyed, i'd enjoy it.

instead, it's just rah-rah plastic toy drivel. but i guess i wasn't expecting that much.

also, the nazi supermen (who are our superiors) looked like a cross between s&m dominators and Cobra Command from GI Joe.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

chris evans wasn't bad. i still look forward to the "avengers" movie. "thor" was a lot more entertaining to me though.

Well Zach I got to disagree with you on this one.
I am not a huge Capt fan but this movie rocked on all levels.Look, feel and pace.THey stuck pretty much to the comics on this one with one plot point but it can be let slide.

There was a ton of action and none of it seemed like throw away fluff.I did not think Evans could pull off playing what is arguably the second most uptight self righteous superhero in the entire comicbook genre. He pulled it off in spades.I loved his last line in the movie proper.
I think this movie is not aimed at 8 years olds per say just the 8 year olds in us all. It works on that level and soes it way beyond my expectations.

The reason most of us fanboys where not upset with the Reynolds casting is because one was Marvel and one was DC duh!The female lead was smoking hot.Hugo Weaving did a fair job and Tucci was excellent.Tommy Lee Jones chewed the scenery and basically stole every scene he was in.
5 out of 5

The after credits makes me want to invent a time machine so I can speed up to next summer.

well i'm in a really good mood so let's just say...this movie wasn't for me. i did like that i was with a very fun audience; they ate it up. and it was cool to see some kids coming out of the theatre with their dads going over different parts of it...

The origin story was the strength of the movie. A lot of action sequences were just thrown in to a montage which I think kind of weakened the movie overall. They could have easily set up a few action sequences better than they did. For comic book fans,I wonder how many caught the fact that the first time you see Arnim Zola on screen,is through a magnifying glass. This I think was a sly reference to the way he is portrayed in the comics:

Re: the movie being PC and Merry Men .... I'll ask you to clarify that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to pitch a bitch, I just would like you to clarify what you meant.

Maybe it's been said they will or won't already, but I'm hoping that, before too long, they decide to have some balls and do something along the lines of the 'Civil War' storyline ..... so, for example, if you meant that Cap was uber-jingoistic (rather than, for example, you mean there's no broads or only whiteys fighting), that may or may not quash my hopes (independent of reality!).

Also, for boyd's sake (?), I have Cartoon Network on right now and am watching Transformers #1. :D

Right now,Captain America has made 65.8 mil for the weekend. Going up against that Potter shit,I guess that's pretty good but I actually thought it was going to earn around 80 mil. They really screwed up by not releasing it on the 4th of July weekend, imho.

Too many people watching giant explody robots 4th of July weekend. This would have been a great release in June when there wasn't shit out there.

I'm not sure he came across as self-righteous, at least not overtly (saw this last night, btw) .... but that would have to be included in his persona to help demonstrate the dichotomy between himself and Ironman, particularly if the ever want to get around to doing a riff on the 'Civil War' story, which would be awesome if done right (but I don't see how they get to it anytime soon, which means you risk losing established stars as the characters).

In the Comic book world the only one with more of a persecution complex than Capt is Superman. In the movie he doesn't until the last scene with him and Fury.Wait till Avengers he will be in full crusader mode from what I have read. As well he should be too ,part of what made him the symbol for America for close to 3 generations of comic readers.
