It's also a fact that the Bears let Olin Kruetz walk for $500k. I think that's more telling than anything. $500k is nothing for a captain of the team.

You aren't letting a guy you really want leave over the salary of an average special teams player.

Kreutz quit football over $500k.

Maybe Angelo was wrong, somebody did die! :?
I can't beleive how this story has dominated sportstalk. I think it's because a lot of "talking heads" were telling us how the Bears MUST sign Kreutz.
Like I said before, too short, too stubby, too past his prime. As far as the O-Line goes, they haven't been passable since John Tait retired.

Yea, I'm kind of sick of this too. I don't care if Bears wanted him, or if Olin quit, or if Urlacher is going to cry over missing him.

They made the right decision for the football team. Which the Bears don't always do, so tip of the cap to them.

Not really. He played his hand wrong. I think he thought the Bears would cave. Instead, they signed someone else.

Add Ruben Brown to that list. That's the last time Kruetz just had to focus on his job. Every now and then he would help Garza. It says a lot about the Bears O-line when you start missing Fred Turnstile Miller.

This. All of this, excepting for the 'kind of sick' part .... I'm entirely sick of the discussion, particularly since little of the arguments for keeping him have any solid footing in actual, factual reality.

How? Saving money? They don't believe he's better. I would think the best player is best for the football team.

Getting in a new guy that you don't believe is better than the old guy is a smart football decision?

Behind closed doors, wouldn't be surprised if Cutler wanted his ass out of there. Who knows what really goes on in those locker rooms. Oh,wait,Terry's got a guy.

Who is 'you' in that statement? I ask because if we're going to use that as the norma normans, then the only person 'you' can be is Jerry Angelo, since he actually made the moves.

For the sake of argument, if the 'you' refers to me, my answer is I'd grown tired of Kreutz for at least the past two seasons. His (alleged) ability to get guys in the right places didn't mean shit to a tree because wherever they may have started the play they were plum-fucked out of position less than 2 seconds later. Ergo, I see no reason for me to think that this new guy is going to be worse than what we've had around here for some time.

If the 'you' was, in fact, meant as you, then of course I can't answer for you; all I can say is it's only you and me and we just disagree ... oo oo oo-oo, oh oh oh.

Angelo and Lovie don't believe Spencer is better. They pretty much said that yesterday. How is the team better? Because they now have more money to spend?

Eventually, real soon now, as in this year or this past year, Olin would have had to either move to a backup role or be traded. So from that standpoint, I'm okay with the deal, even if the replacement's not as good.

Otherwise, it'd be like keeping Urlacher 2-3 years too long.

And the rest of the O line need help. But I'd rather not continue pretending that the center is solid, an anchor; something we can build around...

Of course Bears still delusional about the WR corps

All you had to do was listen to or read the comments from Angelo and Lovie.

Okay, so sourcing that info for a couple of dopes like me and IB shouldn't take too much effort, no?

I've done both and haven't seen anything of that nature. Unless you consider praising Olin for his career as a Bears an endorsement as being better.

Hova is the same guy that said Sydney Rice is or would be the best WR in the NFC north so how much football do you actually watch? Loyalty is great and so is having leadership, but I would say its time to make a change. Kreutz isn't getting younger and the O line was one of.the worst in the league last year. Our leader led us to our Qb completely getting his ass kicked last year. I dont see how it can get much worse then that.

When healthy what WR looked better than Rice in the NFC? I would think Favre knows a thing or two about WR's and he talked about how great Rice was and will be. He's still only 24 too. This is a team trying to win now. Getting younger and better is fine. Roy Williams wasn't my first choice at WR but fact is he is their best receiver in a decade so I'm cool with that. With Spencer they didn't get better. Getting rid of the best guy on a shitty O-line doesn't make you a better team or get you closer to a championship. It just means Tice will have to call in a few more favors this season to keep Cutler upright. I think Tice is a great enough coach to get the job done but it would have been a lot easier with Kruetz for at least 1 more season.

the simple fact that angelo and lovie do not believe spencer is an upgrade over kreutz..makes me even more certain he (spencer) is better than kreutz..angelo n smith are usually very slow to react and realize the right move

Be that as it may, it doesn't mean he is that good anymore- or worth more than $4million.

Kruetz to the Saints. 1 year, $2M-$3M plus incentives. Bears play the Saints on 9/18.

The Saints D-Line will likely have a little edge that day. He knows the plays and knows the players tendencies. How does a center earn incentives? Staying healthy?
