Boys

2 Weeks ago, Mike Rizzo on Hit and Run, basically said Harper would not be up this year because the kid needs to learn how to be a pro. Additionally, I am sure they dont want to start the clock on him.

Rizzo said he thinks the kid could probably hit MLB pitching right now, but he needs to learn some things. This does not mean he won't be here if it is so obvious, but Rizzo said the plan is not in the works.

Nats play in the division with the best team in baseball, they are not winning this division this year and would be in a mess for the wildcard, but next year IF you can get Strasburg back and add Harper, plus maybe Werth cures himself of Dunn disease, now you got something.

I think the Nats realize they have a once in a generation type player and if he continues to dominate Harper is going to force their hand service time be damned.

As for Strasburg there is no 'if'. He already started throwing off a mound and has even spun a few curveballs. If the Nats are still competitive come september I wouldn't be surprised if he made a start or two this year.

Not happening. Strasburg might pitch one major league game this year for 3 innings, just to see how he is.

Rizzo has been so careful with these kids, no way he risks them.

Maybe he does call Harper up, but I dont think it will be because they have a shot. He might want the kid here just for some hazing from some players and helps get a player ready for the next year.

Chipper Jones, blew out his knee his rookie season, but spent the year with the team, said it was the best thing for him. Came in the next year without any pressure and almost won ROY.

So I do think there is value in bringing a kid a up, playoffs or not.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post speculates that it's "feasible" Stephen Strasburg (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start by mid-August.

Strasburg threw a 30-pitch bullpen session at "full effort" a few days ago, which received positive reviews from Nationals pitching coordinator Spin Williams. While he has yet to pitch batting practice, the Nationals have already discussed possible dates for him to begin a minor league rehab assignment. If he progresses quickly enough, there's still an outside chance he could pitch for the Nationals in September.

I find it fittingly ironic that someone in Washington is named Spin.

Moving him from low A to AA was kind of rash and stupid. There is a big jump in talent between those 2 levels. There is alot of crap in low a.

He's hitting .297/.357/.486 in last 10 games. He's only 18 yrs old and already in double A. The kid's a monster.

Stephen Strasburg will likely make his first minor league rehab start Sunday with Class A Hagerstown.

It won't be official until he makes it through a side session Thursday. Strasburg is scheduled to throw 1-2 innings in his first outing and will gradually build up his workload from there. If all goes well, he could rejoin the Nationals' rotation in the early part of September.

Why would they even bother? They're a last place team playing for nothing right now. They should just leave him shut down for the rest of the season and bring him back and ready to go in the Spring. He could do a couple rehab starts in the minors, but he shouldn't be making a single big league start this season.

Not if they want him to continue pitch/rehab in September. The Minor League season is over by then.

Then I would just have him doing the towel drill for the next 3 months.

Follow that by a couple simulated games and he'll be good to go.

I have a feeling Strasburg is going to break Kerry Wood's all time record in simulated game victories by the time his career is over. He's just that good.

He's got to pass Prior first. I read they do not test simulated hitters for steroids. So, he's got his work cut out for him.

Everyone made such a big deal on the 4 letter network when he hit a homerun in a minor league game and then blew a kiss to the pitcher. He obviously was feeling the adrenline and is a 18 year old kid so what else do you expect? When he comes to the MLB and Strasberg gets healthy....that team has potential.

Or no Joe Mather, either.

I'm glad I drafted him. He's been sitting on my bench all year. I'm going to literally sell high. :drunken:

I would do the same if you're not in a keeper league. He's going to struggle this season. It's good they're getting his feet wet. That's going to be a great team in a couple season. They won't look like your father's Expos.

1st major league hit was a rocket shot off the centerfield wall. A lopsided ball is going to look funny in his trophy case.

Not sure if that is tongue in cheek.

It will be interesting to see who has a better career, Trout or Harper. If I had to make I guess, I'd lean towards Trout.

Its tongue in cheek but I thnk Harper will be great

Why do you lean towards Trout? I mean, I think he's further along and more polished right now, but Harper has more talent, and is already showing power that Trout doesnt have yet

CF Bias. Ultimately I think Bryce is a corner.
