I'm sure Zack and/or Jimmy Pasta has seen it by now. I hope to see it by the end of the weekend.

really sickens me that a) david schuster gets a published review in an online paper when he can't even use the correct form of "than" and b) that he liked this movie.

What a waste of an opportunity. Now, I will say this - lot of great moments to make fun of. I can't wait for RiffTrax to take on this movie. I felt very stiff being by myself not being able to make my little japes (What am I gonna make sarcastic remarks to a stranger?) and that didn't allow me to have the kind of fun you should at a movie like this. It's total Drive-In drivel.

However, it completely misses out on itself by being totally homogenized. it takes no risks, has very little violence--but still will manage to scare the living shit out of any kid below the age of 10.

Seriously, this is a movie about a bunch of apes that run amok. Have some fun with it! Or how about...why not make this a total outright bloodbath? I know the studio execs are afraid of the box office; but come on. Word of mouth gets out that this is one of the goriest films of the year...I would think teens would run over themselves to go check it out.

This movie does everything by the book, and while it's not painfully slow or dull or anything, it's not all that interesting. It is fun to see Draco Malfoy get the electric treatment from the apes; but everything else is just a waste. Even John Lithgow, who PLAYS A GUY WITH DEMENTIA (hello????) is wasted here. There's also a running bit about a loudmouth neighbor that doesn't even really get paid off.

All the standard flaws of logic are here, the suspension of disbelief is very suspended, and overall...it's just not really worth seeing unless you're at a drive in or you're drunk with a bunch of buddies and want to do your own MST3K.

:D :) out of :D :D :D :D

Honestly I was interested in it because of that really eerie sound they used in all the early tv promos (which they seemed to drop about a week or so before the release).

Considered seeing Apes last night but, after seeing WZ report, very very glad I saw Cap instead.

For Zack ... I'm guessing you know but I saw lots of promo material last night for a live RiffTrax event in theaters on August 17th .... I just had the name of the movie in my head but it escapes me at the moment - thought that's immaterial. Anyway, in the off chance you hadn't heard of it, a heads-up for you.

It very well might be .... I thought I remembered the name 'John' being there, though I am, as we know, pretty dumb.

In the last one, they made Helena Bonham Carter into a fuckable ape. That's about all that stood out to me.

Respectfully disagree with WZ's assessment...I thought it was very entertaining and will definately go back once or twice to see it again...the lack of violence didn't bother me at all, as I thought the action that was there was much more entertaining than a bloodbath movie would have been...looking forward to what direction they take with future movies.

I'm thinking I may check this out tomorrow night. My buddy in IT saw it over the weekend, and he liked it...let's just say that this dude is like the Jon Lovitz Critic character...he hates everything.

Planet of the Apes movies always bring me back to summer camp at Loyola Academy where Bob was my counselor and movie time always seemed to feature one of the Apes movies.

I was really excited for the remake and it sucked. I expect this one to be bad as well. It was my understanding that the Planet of the Apes movies were intended to be criticisms of the racial segregation of american society. These updates have lost the message.

I saw this last weekend. Last minute decision to go to the movies not know ing what was even playin while driving there. Apes was the only one I hadnt already seen or wanted to see (SPY KIDS 4D?).

Didnt expect much and I thought it was excellent. I'm old enough to remember the 70's acton figures when the Planet of the Apes brand was a bigthing amongst the kids. I nver got into it like I never got into Star Wars or Lord of the Rings type fantasy crap. But this movie kept me entertained and I found myself rooting for monkies apesnd babboons to crush man. It also does a great job explaining how and why the "apes" take over (someday).

4 out of 5 SOLID stars.

The did not take the opportunity to be what it could have been. It really didn't know what message it wanted to send other than "cgi dominated summer semi-blockbuster". A soulless movie.

I'm just going to say it, I hate James Franco. He likes to propagate this idea that he is a brilliant renaissance man in real life. He seems like a witless dolt on the screen.

I just read your review again and thought it was spot on. Even the suspension of disbelief is difficult. The reason apes don't "talk" isn't based on intelligence. They don't have the vocal cords. They also don't have the facial muscles to display the movements in the movie. I'm not sure this is a better situation than the Roddie Mc Dowell mask days.

oh i didn't mean the talking i just meant the goingson in general. there's not much that's very credible, even in the logic of the medicine being made or the change of heart the main prick has (all it took was telling him an old man with dimentia was cured, with no proof of that?).

yes, we agree; the movie IS totally soulless and with this kind of material, it just begs for something more than an ape vs. humans arcade game affair.

So I'm watching this morning, and it occurs to me.

They totally miscast Ceasar. Instead of Gollum in a CGI suit, they should have cast Travis The Score Chimp. As an added bonus, he probably would have bitten James Franco's face off.
