I have my annual wisconsin golf outing with my buddies from Florida at the end of this month. Their plane gets into Milwaukee at 2:30 on a thursday and we are looking for a place to play in the immediate area around 3 or as soon as we can get to the golf course.

Since we don't know exactly when we will be getting to the course we are looking for a place that isn't too fancy or crowded, somewhere where we can hopefully squeeze in 18 holes before the sun goes down. And preferably somewhere where we don't have to worry about the local animals rioting/flash mobbing.

Afterwards we are heading to Green Lake which is Northwest of Milwaukee so ideally we would like place that is west or north of Milwaukee.

Any suggestions?

Blackwolf Run.

Don't worry about the name.

Good suggestion Ugie, but we're already playing there friday. Plus, its not anywhere close to Milwaukee.

I'm leaning towards this place since its right outside milwaukee and on the way towards Green Lake which is where we are staying. Plus, its a great deal, $36 for 18 with a cart with GPS after 3pm. And they have two course to choose from.
Anyone ever heard of it?

yeah, last time they were here we played Whistling Straights. That course was pretty amazing and ridiculous at the same time. It was 105 degrees when we were there and you have to walk it with a caddy. By some sort of anomaly in the Earth up there, every shot you take requires you to walk uphill to your ball somehow. It was like the Baton Death March. The round costs over $350 and just to show you how brutal it was the people in front of us walked off the course after 9.

Definitely worth playing once for the experience, but I'm happy we are playing Blackwolf Run instead this time and we get to drive.

We're also playing 36 holes at Lawsonia in Green Lake. That place is amazing. Two distinct 18 hole layouts, one links course and one woodlands. Place was ranked Wisconsin course of the year in 2008 and I've seen it ranked nationally in several publications as one of the best public courses in the USA.

He has to do a lot of things manually until his girlfriend turns 18.

Shakes, go play Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, WI. You won't be disappointed, the price is nice and it is a very good golf course. It was ranked 38th by Golf Digest for daily fee golf courses. I play their often and it is my favorite place to play in the area.

Of all the people to put on the foe list first, Frank makes it?

Thanks Hawg, that place looks really nice and its right on the way to Green Lake and the price is reasonable. But, its probably about a half hour further up the road and I'm concerned about losing daylight at the end of the round. And its twice as expensive as Silver Spring course, although still not what I would call expensive at $65 for a round. I'm definitely gonna keep this place in mind for the future. Thanks for the heads up.

He's the only person here who I truly dislike and his posts add nothing to this place imo so why would I want to read them anymore? His inclusion on my foes list makes perfect sense to me.

Shakes, this might be a bit too far north for you as well but not bad and
reasonable. http://www.kettlehills.com/ It is real close to Erin Hills where
they have the US Amateur this year. There are some other nice courses I
could recommend but they are further out west of the city than I think you'd
want to go. I hear good things about Brown Deer where they used to play the
Greater Milwaukee Open and that is public and on the north side of the city.

Thanks T-bone, I'm always looking for new courses up there to play, even if its not going to work this trip. I looked at Brown Deer, looks great, but its about $100 a man for a round with a cart and given our time constraints it doesn't make a lot of sense to play it. A place like that you want to take the time to enjoy, not rush through worrying about beating darkness.

Let me check my house tonight. I had a magazine I got from the WSGA last year when I was a
member and using their handicap system. They had a detailed map of the entire SE Wisconsin area
and all courses available. The Park district has a couple that are worth playing and some of the
surrounding county courses are a good value and generally in good shape. If I find it I'll either
PM you or post my findings in the thread.
