I find it very sad that the only girl he has ever looked at ends up dying not long after he finally marries her.

Though you kind of expect somebody to die, Ladder 49 is still pretty sad.

Substory: Forrest is likely HIV positive.

You have to figure Jenny got it on the drug music tour. Forrest implanted Forrest JR in her after that.

me too. was really heartbroken by that scene, and being a fan of "firefly", it was tough to see that happen. but i give whedon credit, like i do with r.r., that it takes guts to do something like that.

There is a difference between guts and shock value. There was no payoff to Wash dying there. Martin pisses you off when he drops the axe but that is the world he created and the deaths are shocking yet move the story. Wash's death was not that.

I am a leaf on the wind...

Good stuff Lipid 8)

i just mean in general. heroes and good guys are always held so precious. i kinda like it when they're killed off, even if it does hurt. that, to me, made "serenity" even more poignant.

Red Dawn for me. I think I saw it when I was 9 or 10 and couldn't believe almost
the entire cast and their families got wiped out.

couple more..."beaches" and "children of men". "children of men" kills off a major character fairly quickly, and that was pretty shocking.

How about a movie where the protagonist should've failed? I just saw Limitless and the whole time i was thinking wow this movie is fantastic as a metaphorical movie about why drugs suck. And then..... the motherfucker didn't learn any lessons and ended up rich and none of it made sense really. Just a shitty ending.

I wanna love hockey, I really do. Why does the NHL not want me to? Getting Vs on Texas is harder than getting weed or coke in Basic Training

Bettman is about to prove the depths of his stupidity. The NBA almost certainly won't start on time this year. A really smart NHL would launch war starting next month. New expanded tv deal with major networks/advertising, etc. The product seems good enough. It's inexcusable to air playoff games on a shittier channel than TBS

To derail the thread and go back on topic; has anyone mentioned the movie Se7en?

I remember seeing that in the theatre circa age 15 and sitting there dumbfounded at the end just muttering "wow.... wow.. he got him! he got him! that's awesome, he got him!" and in the end, the villain pulled off what he set out to do, thus reinforcing kevin spacey's uber-badass status attained from being keyser soze some ~8 months earlier in "the usual suspects"

oh yeah, has anyone mentioned the usual suspects? that one counts too... in the end everyone died and verbal kint ended up bullshitting his way into our hearts and souls!

so yeah, basically kevin spacey had a real good year in 1995 in terms of cinematic greatness.

if you want to see a movie about the effects drugs have on people, watch "requiem for a dream". that's probably the most depressing movie ever made about the subject. it's an absolute downer, and fucking brilliant.

sini, se7en was mentioned on the very first page of this thread.

fixed.

take it from someone with experience in the worlds of those drugs, it was just a horribly preachy piece of shit... the whole "mom's hooked on speed/y diet pills, which does to prove that even if you "do everything right" you can still end up just as fucked up as people on illegal drugs" angle was beat-me-over-my-head fucking stupid, and like, in the end they HAD to send the black guy to jail.... dumbass jared leto never had the foresight to find another vein (and you haven't lived til you've seen a fullblown junkie spend 30 mins with a syringe half filled with blood desperately searching for a vein that don't immediately collapse as if to say "please don't do this to me" --- when they start shooting up in their feet and toes that's when you know shit just got mad real) and the only thing the movie got right was that a good looking chick can go on forever if she's willing to whore herself out for dope. in the movie's case it had to PREACH ON by making her ass-slap another chick with a double-barreled dildo in front of a bunch of creepy businessmen, but still, i've known a few chicks throughout the years who prolly had the worst habits out of everyone cuz there were always a handful of guys who were down to scoop her up, get a bunch of rocks-n-blows, then take her home to smoke them, come down on the blows, drink a sixer, and scoreeeee!!!!

i got to mess around with her once and i shit you not her vagina looked like the meat of an arby's roast beef sandwich. floating on one of those countless flaps was an NES MAX looking thumbpad, which i found out was her clitoris. suffice to say, i was relieved when she said "james, we're not going to have sex" in the middle of the buildup cuz once i saw that i was scared for my life.

yeah, that movie was god-awful, and sure enough when i was doing my DUI outpatient requirements I had to see it once or twice (i dragged out my hours over the course of a year) and be reminded once again of how hard aaronofsky fell off after making pi, which is a pretty damn good movie IMHO.

Requeim is a drug movie, and not a particularly fun one. Limitless was a fun movie that wasn't directly just about drugs.
