Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs are currently speaking to Carlos Zambrano's agents and the pitcher might wind up on the restricted list if the two sides aren't able to come together on some sort of agreement.

Sounds like they are trying to work out a buyout and if they can't come to an agreement he'll be put on the restricted list (again).

Cubs place Zambrano on the disqualified list WITHOUT pay. Player union will file a grievance saying the penalty is excessive.

The Cubs have placed Zambrano on the disqualified list, reports Paul Sullivan. Zambrano can not be with the team for 30 days and will not be paid during that time. MLB and the players' union will use the 30 days to discuss the next step, according to Gordon Wittenmyer.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the union will file a grievance on Zambrano's behalf, challenging the decision. Praver told Hendry that his client "is not in the retirement mode," and the GM also said he "[feels] badly about action towards Braves." He said saying that throwing at Chipper was "inappropriate."

Soriano on Z: "He's been doing a lot of things, not once or twice. Gotta think a little bit more. Big man, but mentally he's weak."

Dempster sez its 'maybe best for both sides.'

As expected, Bully Hendry finds an excuse to not have to live up to his bumbling mistakes...he finds an excuse to not have to pay a guy that he overpaid

fuck that fat fuck...they act as if Z is the only one in the Big Leagues doin this shit...guess what...it happens on most teams, but they just keep it underground and dont resort to banning players

what a crock

its about time that people stop examining the track record of Z, and start examining the track record of this fat GM, they way he continuously suspends players and trades players because of silly things...guess what Bully, look in the mirror...NOBODY likes playing for you...obviously people hate ur ways and u only make the situation worse by bullying them around

as far as Z "quitting on his team", what another load of bullshit...its one of those quips that people just like to throw around and blindly accuse a player of when he does something wrong

he did not quit on his team...he was ejected...once out of the game, he is by rule unable to come back into the game

the Cubs would have to play with 24 regardless...in that sense, he did not quit on his team...Quitting on his team would be if he refused to make his start....or refused to pinch-hit when called upon...the guy made his start, was left in there too long, and he had enough...yes what he did was a bit crazy but he shouldnt have been out there anymore...our bullpen isnt that tired to where he had to "take one for the team"...If you were a 10-year successful pitcher playing under a minor-league manager and pitching coach, maybe you'd see it the same way...he gave it all he had and it wasnt good enough...

at this point in his career, Z, like any other good veteran pitcher, wants to respect his manager and pitching coach...can u see Roy Halladay playing for Quade/Riggins? No

he wouldnt pitch for another 5 days...instead of people giving it a couple days to see if the situation blows over, and hoping he would make his next start, everybody has to overreact and act like crybabies

Isn't it a good thing for the Cubs to get out from under Zambrano's contract?

That describes Zambrano to a T. You know it's bad when Alfonso Soriano piles on by calling you mentally weak.

Regardless of what a joke Hendry, Qball, and Riggins are-- and they are all sick jokes-- this falls 100% on Zambrano. He's a toxic human being who flat out sucks at his job. Out of the 60 starting pitchers in the National League, he's ranked #57 in ERA. Real quality from a guy making $18m a year.

Ricketts needs to clean house: Kenney/Hendry/Wilkens/Quade and negotiate buyouts for Z and Soriano and move forward by hiring a real Pres, GM, Farm Director and manager.

This organization has become a disgrace and they need to start fresh in a big way by wiping the slate clean with the termination of the Zell team and the Zell regimes bloated contracts.

Zambrano agent Barry Praver claims to ESPN that Zambrano returned stuff to his locker. Then again, nothing is in there.

Where Zambrano really is.

Yup. I said this the day that Ricketts bought the Cubs. Remember?

Any support or chance I may have given Ricketts ended when they hired Quade. He is nothing more than another Mike McCaskey tight wad although not as condescending.

I also told everyone who would listen that Mike fucking Quade wasnt qualified to be a MLB Manager.

He had no business even being interim manager either.

Quade must be basking right now. His schmuck GM will probably pin the outcome of this aborted season on Z.

I like Zambrano. It was wrong of him to throw at Chipper, but many a time in the past he has been the only sign of life on the Cubs. It's a shame his promising career was ruined by a dogshit ballclub.

Dempster's comments pissed me off. Why don't you go give up a HR and shut the fuck up, eh?

His career was not ruined by the ballclub. His career was ruined by him. He was/is ignorant. When he was told to drink more Gatorade and hydrate better to avoid cramping issues he drank coffee and failed to hydrate. When he was told not to break bats over his leg he continued to do it. When his teammates made errors or were not able to make plays behind him, he was openly critical of them. He got into fights and arguments with teammates several times over the years. He has lost 5-7 MPH off his fastball and he is now a fairly average pitcher. His career was not ruined, it's just about over, thats all. Zambrano is a guy that had a lot of ability and got less from it than he should have, yet made more money than he deserved to have. He gets no sympathy from me. I appreciate his desire to win, but detest the way he has comported himself.

So add another starting pitcher to the shopping list this offseason. 1B, 3B, RF, 3 starting pitchers and at least 3 bullpen arms with Hendry making the decisions and a cut in payroll. Have fun with that.

I'm not disagreeing entirely with what you said (in fact, you've pointed out many truths), I just wonder if this is what would have come of his career if he were in a different (stable/winning) clubhouse. Would he have pulled the same shit as a Yankee (Phillies, etc.)? My guess is no- but we'll never know.

And if Z is the problem he could very well have a mental illness. Which is not his fault.

I personally predict the Cubs, Zambranos people and the union work out a settlement of the remainder of the contract.

i don't think it would have mattered; but even if it did it still shows immaturity on his part not to be a professional even when the chips are down (no pun intended.)
