all the comparisons of the royals and pirates are somewhat valid but not entirely and here is why..the cubs have a much larger fan base and are in a major market and spend much more money, albeit spent very poorly....also both those organizations are actually better run than the cubs and have a brighter future... here is what happens if the cubs drew 1 million at the gate this season...hendry and crane kenney and quade are all fired..the team improves tremendously with those 3 moves

As bad as Hendry is, you cant convince me that he is worse than anyone in the Pirates. 18 straight years of losing seasons isnt good, if they could build for the future they already would have.

well neal huntington has been on the job for pittsburgh for 3 years..the first thing he did was fire everyone, which is what needs to be done here.. they have better prospects and a nicer stadium and a brighter future...didnt the pirates win the series in the 70's? ..so yeah they have a better past and future and are doing it on a budget

The current management of the Cubs and Pirates has little to do with the 70's, so we can just throw that right out. As far as the future goes, I like McCutcheon but I will take Castro over him anyday. Beyond that I dont see a hell of a lot to get excited about for either team this season or next. The Pirates are doing better than the Cubs this season due to some tremendously lucky pitching by a bunch of bums. They have regressed to where they should be. The Cubs are burdened with overpaid fools and underwater manager, the overpaid fools will be gone soon and hopefully so will the GM and manager. I like the Cubs future in 2013 and beyond a lot better.

At least Pittsburg was smart enough to hire a real manager with an actual World Series appearance on his resume.

Quade's claim to fame was??

He's from Mount Prospect. Just like Lee Dewyse from American Idol.

Dusty Baker had a WS appearance and Pinella had a WS ring and managed a team in Seattle that won the most regular season games ever. How did each of those moves work out?

Quade sucks but WS experience means dick. Managers are good when they have a good team and when they have a bad team suddenly they stink.

i never liked lou and never wanted his dumb ass here..his team in seattle was the best team in mlb that season and won nothing..his cubs team that got swept by the dodgers was the best team in the n.l. and won zero post season games...lou was a real bad hire..look at lou in tampa..joe madden came in and cleaned up his mess... the pirates may have won nothing in the last 2 decades and spent little money on payroll..while the cubs have won nothing in the last 11 decades and have spent more money

Good Managers never have lousy teams. See Tony LaRussa.

Seriously if over 30 years of managing and that's the worst teams you come up with that's pretty damn good.

Oh I completely agree. But to say that good managers never have lousy teams is just stupid. Ever good manager has lousy teams, it is just the way baseball works.

I guess. Calling out the absolutism in his comment was worthwhile but I'm sorry to say he does have a point, he just said it badly. A good manager can make a run with just about any team. LaRussa, as much as I hate to say it, has proven that true time and time again, even though he doesn't always win divisions/championships. He is one of the best.

Now on the other hand, everyone sucks Bobby's Cox but I don't think he's half the manager that his reputation would say.

Well obviously LaRussa is a better manager than Quade which is most evident by the fact that LaRussa will run at least 3 organizations for extended periods of time and after the Cubs shit can Quade he will never ever sniff another MLB manager job ever. Maybe the Fielders can bring him in.

Leyland is another one that is Larussa-good, except he's underrated

the Tigers are in contention every year with mostly average players

I don't see Quade even sniffing a coaching job in MLB again unless maybe his buddy Bruce Bochy gives him a job throwing batting practice and/or being head cheerleader/designated clapper.

He'll be a bench coach with the Nationals or something for a year and then retreat to the warm embrace of AAA.

I hate the Cardinals, but Tony LaRussa is a GREAT Baseball Manager who gets more out of his players than any other Manager in the game. WTF was Hawk thinking when he fired Tony???

Tony La Russa is also a pissant obsessed with hit-by-pitch retaliation and just so happens to be inextricably tied to steroids in baseball more than almost any other manager. He's not so fuckin' great.

I started a Bobby V shoutout with bad spelling in another section. That was spot on. Q Ball sucks. So glad he is gonna be gone.
