Anyway...ricketts needs to be grilled on real issues, but I bet it'll be a mini love fest with no reporter being tough enough to stand up to fanboy. they'll broach and back off.

If God said the Cubs would get a publicly financed new stadium if you sold the team, would you do it?

Ricketts is a joke. Hendry is a joke. Quade is a joke. The Cubs are a joke.
If Ricketts announces that these clowns will return next year, Cubs fans just might burn the shrine to the ground.

Everyone will be back. Ricketts will brag about all the money thrown around in the draft and will praise their recent "winning" ways. The guy is clueless.

He will defer any baseball Q's to "Jim".

He is quickly becoming the worst owner in town if he is not so already.

I hate to say it, but this organization is doomed to more failure.

How in the world could Ricketts even consider bringing everyone back next year? I mean I know that he is the 2nd generation lucky & dumb kid, but surely he must know that he needs to clean house.
Ricketts was the worst owner in Chicago the day that he bought the Cubs. He might just be the worst owner in MLB. Jerry likes this.

They really really fucking suck. CLH you really blow monkey balls also if you believe the shit you have spurted all over yourself about how this is not Hendrys fault or the result of years of shitty management and backward ass screwed up player scouting and development. I watched a guy named Ryan Harvey spend over three fucking years in Peoria and never could hit his ass out of a plastic bag. Great #1 pick. Lou Montinez was also there and was supposed to be great. My ass. They blow at scouting and drafting and teaching players to become MLB ballplayers. Sean Gallegher. Next great fastball pitcher to come up the system. Kiss my flippin ass. Keep on makin excuses for the next 102 years.

So Hendry is not to blame for the players and managers choking when these are the players and managers he hand picked. Please tell me if I'm reading this wrong. Which is why I said it just must be unbelievably bad luck that he has consistently assembled teams of "chokers". Or maybe he's bad at his job.

Of course Hendry's resume looks great with 1 division series win. Because this is the most losing franchise in baseball. It's always easier to win when the checkbook is out.....now Hendry has no minor leaguers to fall back on and he can't trade away his mistakes. Which is his doing.

CLH - you look really bad here. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth...and the "facts" you are throwing out actually work against your argument(s). Frankly, if you want to blame the players...the players are the GM's players. It is his roster. Yes, Hendry > McPhail. So what? The whole organization is broken. Who fixes it? The employees? No. Ownership! Management! New Management!! To me, and many others....Hendry is the main culprit in all of this. No trade clauses, extra years, bad players (aaron miles???), bad drafts, over paying, and so on.

Yes...games are won & lost on the field, but there is a whole lot that goes into how that team is constructed and where they come from and what is in the pipeline to replace broken pieces. Hendry has had the minor leagues for many years now, and there "ain't" a whole hell of a lot there right now.

Do you really think a team would have fired Hendry for turning the Andy MacPhail regime he was stuck under into teams with the talent to win it all three years out of six?

When did this happen? I saw them lose 8 straight playoff games during Hendry's tenure.
Talent to win it all?
Not even remotely.

So Hendry has been in the position for how long?? The fan base needs to relax and give him 10, 20 more years?? And as an FYI...the current team is hovering around the 20 game(s) under 500 mark.....the current minor league system boasts 1 top 50 prospect....The current payroll is the THIRD highest in all of MLB...and did I mention this team is playing at 20 games under 500??? The current team has old & over paid players on it and with no prospects to fill their positions so we have to trust Hendry to bring in the free agents, which history has shown will include too many years, no trade clauses, and bad production and a bloated payroll.....

So I guess I am wrong. Yes indeed....Hendry deserves atleast 10 more years to build a team that maybe can be only 10 games under 500. I shouldn't be so obtuse. For shame on us cubs fans for being so impatient with a GM that has given sooo much.

But to say not even remotely? Come on. They had nine freaking all-stars in 2008. I realize that is a popularity contest to some degree, but not remotely?

So what? SHOW ME THE RINGS. I don't count one playoff series victory in 4 series over 8 years to be a big success. Again, not even remotely.

I dont believe that I look bad here. The villagers are storming the castle with torches and pitchforks and are ready to put Hendry and Ricketts in the guillotin. Sometimes the villagers need to stop and realize that just because the leadership is gone, it doesnt necessarily mean that the next leader is going to be any better. I am not talking out of both sides of my mouth. I am presenting facts that Hendry has made moves that I consider good baseball moves that have improved the baseball team and should have put them in a position to win a World Series, with the exception of the Bradley signing, which I have always contended was the one move I would consider Hendry fire-able for. You are making the same assumption as everyone else that new management will result in a better product. It might not. And the whole organization is not broken. Hendry has been making improvements. They havent resulted in a world series because the team has aged and the window of a championship is gone. A new window has to be opened. I think Hendry should have that opportunity as he was the one that opened the window ten years ago.

Sure Hendry has made the right moves: John Grabow 2 years for 7.5M guaranteed when he was projected to get maybe a 2M 1 year deal! Bidding against oneself is always an attribute of a top exec.

And look at the results!!

Im not asking them to relax. Yes, the last two years have sucked. Hendry knows that. Its why they went out and got Tim Wilken. Its why Ricketts gave Wilken money to spend. They are dealing with the pains right now of mortgaging the future for a championship. You build up some prospects and try to get some players in return and plan to have some of those guys from the farm become major league ready players. And yes, you should not be so obtuse.

Tim Wilken drafted Hayden Simpson in the 1st roundlast year when he was projected to go maybe in the 5-6th round. The results?

They've dropped Simpson all the way down to extended spring training where he's pitching 1-2 innings an appearance. Technically that's not even the minor leagues. I don't know if he's hurt or they're trying to build up his confidence but this is a bad situation for 1st round pick who was a starter in college.

For what it is worth...read this in the chicago tribune today..

By Paul Sullivan, Chicago Tribune reporter

9:41 p.m. CDT, August 16, 2011
HOUSTON — The Cubs gave 14th-round draft pick Dillon Maples a $2.5 million signing bonus to give up a football scholarship to be a kicker and punter at North Carolina, the largest bonus ever for a player selected after the third round.

It was part of an overall commitment of $12 million the Cubs made in this year's draft, a significant upgrade from the $4.7 million they spent in 2010.

The Cubs projected Maples, a right-hander with a fastball clocked at 97 mph, as a first-round pick. But he dropped so low because his high asking price made him a signing risk.

Cubs scouting director Tom Wilken said Chairman Tom Ricketts gave the OK to select Maples, despite speculation he couldn't be signed.

"(All) our reports were very similar — a plus fastball, 91-97 (mph), with a power curve and a decent changeup, and a good feel for pitching," Wilken said. "That's a big prerequisite for me because that's what you need from guys who are going to be starters."

Maples, who was advised by the CAA agency, said: "If you would have told me on draft day it would be $2.5 million, I wouldn't have believed it. They said I might slide because of the high price tag, but I didn't think I would slide that much. I didn't feel like I was asking for too much. I was asking for $3 million, with a $2 million bottom. But I'm not going into this for the money. I just love to play."

Maples said his style is similar to that of Josh Beckett or Matt Garza. He will be in Wrigley Field next weekend with his family, and will get a taste of Wrigley Field.

"I'm really excited to be a Cub," he said. "I can't tell you the extent, but it has been crazy. I love the city after only one visit. It seems to revolve around the Cubs."

He was out about 8 months with an extreme case of mono where he lost 30 lbs and still hasn't recovered his strength.

They fucking suck at everything. Baseball first and foremost. Then everything else. CLH tried to make a point but it was lost in excuses and bullshit. They are bad from the top to bottom in everything involving BASEBALL. They could sell shit to a fly that was eating it but are bad at BASEBALL and normal operations that produce a winning team every couple hundred years. And by winning I mean a fucking WS championship. Take your Division titles and shove them up your ass.

For the majority of my life, I never once gave a single solitary thought to the Chicago Cubs. They were completely irrelevant to me as a baseball fan. Since I have moved to Illinois, however, I have constantly been conducting amateur sociological studies of Chicago Cubs fans. I am still compiling my data, but I will say this: most people who are punched in the testicles will completely withdraw from any further situations which will likely result in further punches to the testicles. Cubs fans are constantly being punched in the testicles, year after year, and yet they continue to go to games where they are repeatedly punched and/or kicked in the testicles.

I have preliminarily concluded that there are two (2) distinct groups of Cubs fans: 1. Happy, drunken idiots, and 2. Real fans, like Scooter seems to be, who arguably could be seen as idiots for continuing to subject themselves to this great pile of Siberian gulag-like misery.

I loathe the former group, and have tremendous pity for the latter. Scooter, et al, are you extremely strong willed, or are you clinically insane?

perfectly said...Cubs fans are the dumbest in baseball, and thats because of the cliquish mentality of young Chicagoans...fuck them

His record can be debated.

The mere fact that the Cubs still have an old fashioned former scout "good baseball man" rather than a business numbers expert is enough of a case to find someone else IMO

A fucking scout. What do you expect?

It actually makes perfect sense. He can find the talent, but he signs them to terrible franchise crippling contracts.

Probably a little of both.

I have not given one thought to attending a game at Wrigley or purchaced any gear of any kind with the Cub logo on it for over three years. I used to go at least one time per season but not any more. I used to buy a lot of stuff just because I wanted to have it. Now I do not care to give the Cubs a dime of my money. It makes no difference really but I feel better knowing that they do not see my coin in their coffers.

Much of what you said could be applied to the Bears, no?

I think that it would be quite a stretch to compare the Chicago Bears to the Chicago Cubs as far as long term Siberian gulag-like misery. By the way, Spaulding, I never have had the chance to tell you how delightful it was to meet you at Comiskey Park on Wednesday, August 3rd. Oh, that is right, I could not tell you that because neither you nor anybody else showed up. Laugh out loud!

As the Judge said to Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez prior to commencing his hanging: "May God have mercy on your soul. Proceed."

Excellent looking dog, Scooter.
