I don't think they are underrated in the general sense but a lot of people overlook the
overall catalog of The Band. They know them as the band that sung "The Weight" but
they did so much more than that. Maybe the elders can put me in my place on this one
but I know a lot of people 30 or younger don't even know who these guys are.

I never said it was not a classic song or a bad one. It is not. I just like other songs by them much more. Music is fucking awesome because everyone has different opinions on the so called greatness of a group, song, or their place in history. Joe I am sure you heard some of Paul Kossoff after Free before he passed. I think he is one of the most overlooked guitarists ever. I have Back Street Crawler on an old LP 33 signed by Paul Kossoff and Paul Rodgers. I would not sell it at any price and I have been offered a ton of cash for it. Molten Gold baby!!!!

Since we're talking "underrated".....i'll vote Pink Floyd. Beatles/Who/Doors/CCR/Tull/Animals/take your pick(except the Stones & Zepplin)

Most adults under 40 think the name of the song is "Take A Load Off Annie" or dumber. The Band was top notch. Cripple Creek is great. Poco is another overlooked band. J. Geils "Full House" is 37 minutes of total rock and roll/blues fun.

That's pretty cool.

To me, Free and Mott the Hoople were awesome but somehow Bad Company was a little less.

Bad Co. was all about hit singles and A.M. radio airplay. I was dissapointed in Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke for selling out like that. They made some great music but at a price. Mott was great as well but most people did not get their music. I never really liked Uriah Heep much until Abominog was released in 1982. We smoked ounces of weed and drank shitty beer as the LP spun time and time again. I have the remastered CD in my car and play it quite often. I always feel better after hearing it. Takes me back to the good times.

see, i wonder how y'all define "underrated" in regards to something like this. is there a difference between "underrated" and "nobody has ever heard of them?" cuz like, to me, purely semantically underrated would mean "most people rate them low, but they're actually good" whereas when you have threads like this on messageboards, most people interpret "underrated" to mean "good stuff that nobody's heard of"

in lieu of the latter definition, i present you with the greatest funk band that has ever existed... seriously, george clinton and the whole parliament crew can fucking blow me and go smoke crack in no particular order (seriously, in my drug-addled-days i ran across someone who claimed that it was her sole responsibility to procure ~20 crack rocks for george clinton whenever she was in town. she had an affinity for chicago street heroin, however, being that she worked for someone who worked for some promotion company, when word came down that they needed someone to get drugs for george clinton, they're like "oh this girl is fucked up on heroin, she could do it" --- she assures me that during a parliament show, george clinton prolly smokes at least 3-5 crack rocks when he "rotates out" of the lineup)

anyhow, this song is just about perfect... it's why i bought this 7" then went to the shirt-making-place on milwaukee right in the heart of wicker park and made my own trouble funk shirt.

Rick, Levon and Garth toured as the band in early 90's with some misc, guys. Missed Robbie (and obviously Rich) but they were still very good.

the band and semisonic are good choices. actually it's interesting you bring them up, SD. i've been rediscovering their stuff lately. "feeling strangely fine" was on my regular rotation in college, nestled against a tree, listening to them as i sank into the grass. great times...

Wesley Willis slept in the lounge of our dorm in college. Not only was his music iconic, I am pretty sure he was schizophrenic.
