Chicago - Could Old Style Beer end its 61-year run as the official beer of Wrigley Field?
Bloggers said Pabst -- which owns Old Style -- wants to pull out of their sponsorship deal with the Cubs. Rumors are that Coors Light might replace Old Style.
The Cubs and Old Style have been together for more than 60 years, but the old style brand is owned by Woodridge-Based Pabst, and Pabst Owner Dean Metropoulos said in an internal company memo that he wants to exit the Cubs deal.

The company would apparently divert its Cubs money to other marketing efforts.
We hadn't heard from Pabst as of Friday morning, but the Cubs said they would like to see their partnership with Old Style continue.

Word on the street is that Coors Light is taking over the official beer of the Cubs. Not that any of this truly matters but I think that Old Style is much more drinkable ever since they went back to the old recipie with the Krausening. Coors Light is well meh. Plus it makes me think of the Rockies.

Wait a minute...Bud Light sponsors the Bleachers at Wrigley Field and there's a "Thirst Row" sponsored by Budweiser, which happens to be the "Official Beer" of Bud Selig's Major League Baseball.

As for Coors Light, while they sponsor Comcast SportsNet's "Cubs Postgame Live", they're now part of Miller, and I'm sure you've seen the Miller Lite signed prominently displayed above a Wrigleyville rooftop on Sheffield...

The only time I drink Old Style is at Cubs games.

I've been drinking Coors Light lately as a cheap alternative. I like it better than Miller or Bud.

You are correct. Pabst announced plans to relocate to Los Angeles back in May.

This is outstanding news. When you see a vendor, want a beer, but it ends up being the Old Style guy, I end up getting mildly frustrated. Can't do it. Especially when it's in the 90's.

Old Style was the beer of choice for a 15 year old Speeps. Couldn't beat 30 pack for $7.99.

It was also the beer my grandmother gave me as a treat when I was 2.

I don't know what Johnny B. had to do with that, but he did relocate to L.A. when The LOOP was under different management back in the early '90s before his former station "JACK"-ed their format allowing him to return briefly.

Old Style Beer Sticks with Cubs
The beer will be sold at Wrigley Field for the 2012 and 2013 seasons

Chicago hipsters rejoice: Your favorite brew is sticking around Wrigley Field for two more years.A renewed agreement between Pabst Brewing Company and the Cubs means Old Style and Old Style Light will be sold at Wrigley for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, the companies said Wednesday.
The beer, served in the ballpark since 1950, will be spotlighted next Friday, Sept. 16, during a Fan Appreciation Day at the Cubs vs. Astros game, and 62 fans will be picked to win Cubs Cash and Old Style gifts.
“Cubs fans have grown accustomed to enjoying a refreshing Old Style while catching Cubs baseball at Wrigley Field,” said Cubs owner Todd Ricketts in a statement. “I’m excited as a fan of both organizations that the Old Style tradition at Wrigley Field will continue.”
The agreement includes updated field signage, more fan events and additional promotional opportunities next season, the beer company said.

My question is when the hell did Old Style become synonomous with hipsters?

I have great seats to that days game and it's gonna take several beers to get through that exciting Cubs/Astros tilt. If I get an Old Style gift, I would be happy to pass it along...make mine a Bud Lite.
