Altho Hendry DID get to give "the largest signing bonus given to someone outside of the third round" with 2.5mil for a 14th round player.... I swear I read that in the trib in an article by Sullivan called "Why is this GM smiling" but didn't Samardzija get drafted later than the third round and get 10mil?

Either way, 2.5mil for a 14th round draft pick = hello, you've been cubbed. nice closing salvo, and great timing by the ricketts clan for sure =D

The Danny Mac show broke into the middle of an interview with Todd Hollandsworth to inform us that no other than everyone's favorite yuppie kiss-the-ring douchebag of all-things-cub who "calls it like [he] sees it" David Kaplan broke this story. At the end of the interview they say that Kaplan's claim has been verified by others.

It's a truly odd time to do this, seeing as you had Jim there to draft all of these players and shell out a bunch of money to sign. As I said, I think they guaranteed 2.5mil to a 14th round player? There's a quote in there about how Hendry thinks they've got four first-round guys.... well slap mah fro, how good have Cubs first round draft picks been throughout the years, impalings notwithstanding?
