No you didn't. You aren't that clever.

I held it in thinking of the best way to break it (delicate because time was of the essence as the guy who sits across from me is a Twitter freak)

I am that clever you sonofabitch

Rick's was better though

Well with this news, they're definitely gonna win the World Series next year...no doubt.

(dumbest thing on board submission?)^

It might be that this happened now because whomever their replacement is only just agreed (likely a gentlemen's agreement) to take the helm for next year. I'd like to think it's going to be a good replacement. I'd like to think that.

Good for the Cubs. Better late than never I suppose. He made some good moves but clearly the no trade clauses and high contracts caught up with him. Maybe they can start actually rebuilding now that he is gone and some of these contracts will be gone or maybe can be moved soon.

Between the draft signings and Hendry getting fired, this is easily the best week of Cubs news in years.

Don't worry. Elmhurst Steve actually said that joke the very second that Hendry was fired, or at least that's how he'll tell the story 5 months from now.

I am about to get a new computer at work so I am going to be off of the interwebs for awhile but I just had to stop by and say its about time. Hopefully under new leadership they can get this thing pointed in the right direction. YEAR TWO!

yeah, i'm quite worried that clan ricketts is indeed a bunch of inept meatballs who will turn to their guy crane kenney to look for the next GM of the chicago cubs. keep in mind, you don't want to have baseball people in charge of your baseball people in charge of their baseball people who are in charge of their baseball people. the buck has gotta stop somewhere otherwise you're going to have too many baseball people..... in a baseball organization, and you don't want that!

With news like this its probably a sure thing that we will get at least one call from elmhurst steve into Mac's show or the Saloon today. They should be precious!

Funny that MLBtraderumors just started a series on the top GM candidates. Here's what they came up with:

1.Jerry DiPoto, Senior VP, Scouting & Player Development, Diamondbacks
2.Rick Hahn, VP, AGM, White Sox
3.Thad Levine, AGM, Rangers
4.Ben Cherington, Senior VP, AGM, Red Sox
5.David Forst, AGM, Athletics
6.Tony LaCava, VP Baseball Operations and AGM, Blue Jays
7.Mike Chernoff, AGM, Indians
8.Bryan Minniti, AGM, Nationals
9.A.J. Preller, Senior Director, Player Personnel, Rangers
10.Kim Ng, MLB
11.DeJon Watson, AGM, Player Development, Dodgers
12.Al Avila, VP, AGM, Tigers
13.Damon Oppenheimer, Scouting Director, Yankees
14.Mike Radcliff, Vice President of Player Personnel, Twins
15.Bill Geivett, Sr. VP Scouting & Player Development, AGM, Rockies
16.John Ricco, VP, AGM, Mets
17.Jeff Kingston, AGM, Mariners
18.Logan White, AGM, Amateur & International Scouting, Dodgers
19.Peter Woodfork, MLB
20.Matt Klentak, Director of Baseball Operations, Orioles

I'm telling you all, Ricketts is going to retain the same consulting firm that found Jerry Angelo.

Bring in Peter Woodfork, just based upon his name.

What a blubbering fatass. What is it with people who get fired having press conferences? You suck. We don't care what you have to say.

He's STILL sitting there making excuses.
Glad he's gone. Shouldn't have even given him a mic for fucks sake.

And he does sound like he wants to cry.

you guys are such assholes! jim hendry is choking up... he wants to cry! the gravy train has de-railed! felix pie's five tools have rusted! just think of all the 15th round draft picks who are now going to be deprived of 2+mil signing bonuses now!

YOU'RE MAKING A GROWN MAN CRY YOU ASSHOLES!!!

and literally, he's grown quite a bit. it's amazing how much fatter and withered he's come to look during his tenure as GM here.

Because a guy who obviously cares about the organization has been canned. Results aside, he did care and he did try to win. Kinda puts him in a real awkward spot.
