I figured this one out on my own. You can all praise me later when it's eventually told.

Ricketts fired Hendry on July 22 but still said he could be a part of the organization. Hendry either agreed or said he would consider it and continued his role and tried to sign these draft picks. Remember the talk of him working under Pat Gillick? That was legit. That's what Ricketts wanted. Also, Ricketts did this cuz he's not a heartless boss which is bad. He hates to fire people.

I think Hendry decided in recent days that he didn't want to stay so they both decided to tell this "We both decided it was best for Jim to stay and sign picks" story. Ricketts did this to save face. That wasn't why he kept him. He kept him cuz he thought he'd remain with the new GM.

Another reason as to why my scenerio is true is the fact that Ricketts said yesterday that "Jim Hendry stepped down". So he was fired as GM but stepped down from the organization.

Hendry might have been waiting to see if it was Gillick that got the gig as I believe that's the only one that Hendry wouldn't mind working under. I think it's been reported that those two have a good relationship anyway. Once he learned that Gillick didn't want it, he told Ricketts he's gone.

Got it? Make sense? Of course it does. Pass this along to the Cubs reporters. I just absolutley nailed this one.

It's all mine. I didn't hear it anywhere. I don't have a source for anything. My only source is my BS detector.

what exactly has tom ricketts said or done that leads you to believe he knows what he is doing or has any idea about running a baseball organization?..from day 1 i did not want this turd here and he has shown me that he is not a smart man with any business sense at all. since he took over this team he has had a public relations nightmare with dumb statements and poor decisions.

The lie itself isn't significant. So what? He lied to protect himself and the Cubs brand. All execs lie. It's the meaning of the lie that matters.

1. It show he's weak. He can't just fire someone. Too much of a heart. He has to offer Hendry a chance to stay with the Cubs.

2. It also shows he wanted Gillick but couldn't get him. Maybe it's as simple as Gillick wanting to remain retired and not get back into running a team at his advanced age. Or it could mean that Gillick didn't like the cut of Ricketts' jib and is looking for something better. Maybe he sensed that Ricketts is incompentent and weak. If so, that's a big story. A very accomplished GM rejects the Cubs. That I don't know. We'll have to rely on our Cubs reporters to get to the bottom of that. That won't happen. They don't have the curiosity or the desire to investigate anything other than what's on the surface or what the Cubs feed them. Many of them are also in protect mode to keep their relationships strong with Ricketts and the Cubs.

Crane Kenney supports this statement.

I actually kind of agree with this! Once he signed the 1st round pick, Hendry felt his job was done and wanted to spend some time with his kids before school started again.

This past week and this upcoming week is the family vacation time of the year, of which I would assume Hendry never did and when you know you are fired anyways, you say "fuck it, I am outta here"

Was pretty simple to figure out.

Hendry wanted to stay on to see if they could get his career record over .500 so he could quit and everyone could kiss his ass with saying "He was over .500 as a GM for the Cubs, which is really good."

I was hoping that this was a thread about the forthcoming Lifetime made-for-tv movie that boldly tells the story of Jim and Tom, two star-crossed friends (and maybe even more than that) hoping and praying that their love can hold on while the team falls to shit.

Instead, we get some patented Beardown speculation! Oh snap!

Well, a good start would be that he is asking around to others to find out what the process is like. I love the "that means he is weak and doesnt know what he is doing" crap. Do all of us a favor and read the book Good to Great. Great executives solicit feedback from others when making a decision. They may change their mind multiple times. It is the ego-ist who doesnt ask questions and goes forward with ideas that run into trouble when the train falls off the tracks. Why? They stop listening.

I love Bernstein and all, but his "sources" crap about who Ricketts is as a business man is just strange. I see a man that has produced business results. Go read his bio and look what his companies do. Guy is brighter than you think. Can he run a baseball organization? Sure. He just needs to surround himself with the right people and learn. You know no more than he does about running a baseball organization, yet we are all these expert critics.

so you answered my question with nothing..this dummy has owned the team for 2 plus years..another 18 months he had the financials and full access to the club and anything club related before the sale was finalized, he has done nothing since he took control..the guy is a weak bitch who lacks vision and common sense.

All you need to know about Tom Ricketts is that he "put a book together about the cubs for all the new & young Cub players, detailing the rich history of the Cubs". Really? Seriously? This is part of your plan to rebuild the Cubs? Ricketts says that he will now begin talking with other baseball people who have hired GM's to find out what he should & shouldn't do. WTF has he been doing for the last 2 years? He should have someone ready to take the job. This clown is a typical 2nd generation rich kid thanks to his Fathers brains & business savvy.

What has he done that would possibly lead you to this conclusion?
