I brought up the fact North is doing his show from his basement at Pappyland and Boers mailed his show in from the comfort of his bathroom over the Summer and fall of last year and then yesterday Mac mentioned they will be doing shows from his home over the coming months.

I don't know why this bugs me but unless your having listeners over to your crib , WHAT'S THE POINT? As a consumer of Sportsradio I find it annoying that a host or hosts feel the need to not come into the studio or or show up at a remote and give me 4 solid hours. I guess I find it to be over the top look at me or If I have to show up at work why not you.

Tell me if I'm off base here ..

BTW..Is Doug invited over if you do have listeners at the crib and will there be a 10 foot buffer zone with him and Harry.... :P

Ive never understood remotes really. If you're not at the remote, I think its poor radio. It's difficult to hear sometimes and often the hosts are limited on what they can do. But then again I've never been to one either.

Actually, every remote I've been to I've hardly paid attention to much of the show - you can't hear it very well, and since there are usually friends with you there, you are bs'ing with them.

The remotes are pretty fun, although you are correct- you can't hear a damn thing unless you are right in front of them. It's more about the beer- an excuse, really, but fun all the same

it's a great irony that at remotes, the radio guys' most dedicated listeners come there to not listen to their broadcasts.

it's all about the interaction.

that is kinda funny zack. although, i'd have to say that 75% of the remotes i've been to I can hear everything. the other 25% are as HHJ said, an excuse to drink.

Yeah. Mac sometimes bitches about the sound quality at remotes saying...

"The best place to do a radio show is in a radio studio."

I guess that rule doesn't apply if he gets to do it from the house. At least at remotes you sacrafice sound quality to meet and greet listeners. There is no benefit to a listener when these guys do shows from their houses.

I blame their management. I don't see how that is allowed.

Many good points by the previous posters.... here's my rationale.

Not unlike Dahl & Meier doing their "Aloha Fridays" - even though it almost invariably was in-studio - it's a mood setter. Getting people stoked about the upcoming weekend with a welcoming demeanor from all the hosts.

It would sound better than restaurant/bar remotes because it would be poolside... high ceilings and gigantic, loud rooms would not be present to compromise the sound.

It would reward a handful of the show's most frequent and most entertaining listeners/contributors with the intimacy of a Macaritaville invitation. A barbeque on a sunny day.... top shelf cocktails flowing.... MJH on the deck.... not a terrible concept. Website photos would be a hoot, I'm certain.

I never.... ever..... would want shows consistently to emanate from the crib. That's my word. What Terry and Northie do is their business. The installed ISDN line at my house would be an emergency option for a blizzard (Jurko lives three miles from me) or on a miserable traffic day or two.... maybe around Taste of Chicago. I don't anticipate ever parting from my "best place to do a radio show is a radio studio" philosophy.

Good stuff here lately. Good reading.

So is the g/f gonna be in swimwear? :) 8)

I'm fine with it as long as the term 'Macaritaville' is never used again

If M, J, or H are in swimwear - then, please, no website photos.

I just got a new monitor. :D

for some reason the "Die Hippie Die" episode of South Park keeps popping into my head.

....what started out as a small remote event at ESPN Radio 1000 Dan McNeil's home in Northwest Indiana among 30 listeners and crew turned into a sports radio fest as the crowd is now 7 miles deep.......

Harry - Hey Mac, Harry here. Why does the show get to be done at your house? Why not mine? Why do you get all of the perks? I still have to travel from Evanston. You and Jurko are right there. How do I benefit?

Mac - Bite me!!!

An NFL draft party from Macaritaville...sounds good.

I prefer Macaritaville over Macyland. How about Dantown or Macopolis?

Hey Mac, you're going to need to have a quota, so you gotta send out an invite for Nas, Krazy Ivan, Kid Cairo or Myself. Or All of the above if you really want a roudy bunch 8)

Not if we're all in the same car. The Indiana State Troopers will get us once we pass 106th and Indianapolis Blvd.

You guys would be a great diversion for me as I bring a carload of illegal fireworks back over the state line while you get pulled over for driving 56 in a 55 m.p.h. zone.

the best part about doing a "remote" from mac's estate...if it rains, they can just move everything under the gazeebo
