The Baltimore Sun reports: Felix Pie was designated for assignment today and replaced on the Orioles' 25-man roster by Matt Angle.

The talented but mistake-prone outfielder was batting just .220 with seven RBIs in 85 games, while also struggling defensively. He had started just one of the Orioles' past eight games.

The Orioles acquired Pie, once one of the game's top prospects, from the Cubs in January 2009 for pitchers Garrett Olson and Henry Williamson.

Never saw Pie as nearly the prospect that Patterson was. seldom does a guy have so much ability and yet fail to put it together. In the first half of the 2003 season, Patterson was one of the best outfielders in the league. He showed flashes for brief stretches of being a top player since then, but never over a full season....rarely for over stretch of a week or two.
