With the big to-do over Castro's infield shenanigans on Sunday night, I haven't heard anyone mention golden boy Ryne Sanderg's culpability in how badly Castro has been coached. Didn't Sandberg have "Cassie" (God, I hate Quade's stupid nicknames and yet I can't help but use one) in the minors, supposedly teaching him the right way to play the game? Not saying Ryno is 100% responsible, but I find it interesting that no one ever brings up Sandberg's name when the younger players' lack of fundamentals is questioned. Wouldn't they have learned some of their bad habits under his watch? I don't think Castro suddenly learned this crap from A-Ram.

Took a look at Castro's minor league career. I think Sandberg only had him for 31 games in Tennessee.

Isn't Ivan DeJesus the infield coach? And he reports to Quade?? Both sit there and watch and in Quade's case, clap.

I would like to see Larry Bowa as his manager for a season. No-I don't really want Bowa to manage the Cubs, but as great a SS as he was and as demanding as he is as a manager I think he might do Castro a lot of good in terms of playing the game the right way and playing his position well.

The one to blame would be the minor league roving infield instructor and the field director to whom he reports. That individual will be in town for at least 6-8 series over the season and their sole job is to evaluate the fundamentals of the infield prospects. They would also work exclusively with prospects during spring training and the instructional league.

Infield Coordinator- Franklin Font
Field Coordinator- Dave Bialas(this guy has been there 10 years and all of the issues with prospects when they get called up should be traced back to him)

Don't Stop with hendry, sharpen that axe and take care of this shit.

Maybe we could blame Castro for not having enough sense to pay attention.

I prefer to blame a goat.

I prefer to pretend that my team was going to coast thru the WS in the strike year even though the Expos were the best team by far.

I blame Carlos Pena. The guy is being paid $10M to be a positive Latin influence. The least he can do is tell the kid to keep his glove on and pay attention.

i thought that is why quade is here, to use his 30 years in the bush leagues to stress fundamentalsand work with the younger players.

They cut off the head of the beast but yet the beast remains. Flush the whole organization a little at a time. Barry Rozner mad an excellent point in his article today about Ricketts taking his time. He didn't take his time in raising ticket prices, putting money into the park, etc.

As Jack Nicholson once said: "This town needs an enema."

Bingo. The truth is, this probably happens more times than people realize, but most TV announcers wont call out a player like Bobby V did. If Bobby V doesn't rant about this it probably doesn't become an issue.
Enough already. Hopefully the kid learned a lesson.
